View Full Version : how to carry a bag of golf clubs on bike?

I think this should be the right forum to ask this.... :)

I'm trying to come up with a way to carry at least most of a set of golf clubs on my bike (in the bag, since I'll need it on the courses). If I can figure that part out, I should have no trouble carrying my glove, tees, shoes, and other accessories in panniers, since the bike was built for going the distance under load.

http://www2.trekbikes.com/Bikes/Specialty_Bikes/Trekking/X500/index.php is the bike I've got coming (may be another month, but it's coming).

Any ideas?

Bob,

Golf is a sissy sport for old men with no strength or fitness.

My suggestion; forget golf pick up a mountain bike and ride. You'll respect yourself a lot more.

Bah. That's like saying one should never read a book or perform brain surgery because it requires too little physical exertion.

Besides, really playing can involve some very vigorous exercise. And to actually *win* is no small feat.

One option is just to strap the golf bag to your back. A slightly saner approach is go get one of these:

Brain surgery and reading aren't sports.

Golf is a nancy sport designed to make old chubby men who dress poorly think they are active.

Golfing can be a sport, and biking can be a sport. Either can also be something one does to earn a living or just for pleasure.

Besides, the golfers who actually manage to make much money at it tend to spend hours at a time lifting weights & performing other work-outs just to be in shape for golf.

I take it that you don't have any meaningful tips for how one might carry the load on my bike, though, despite the fact that carrying such a load on a bike is far from an insult-worthy activity.

I've checked these out, but may not be able to get one to work with my bike due to the disc brakes. Once the bike arrives, I'll do the measurements for it, but from what I've read on the bobtrailers site, at least some rear wheels with disc brakes are too wide at the hub for the trailer connection, and some users of those trailers express concern about the safety of using disc brakes with the trailer at all.

If it can be made to work, that may be the best solution of any I've seen so far.

I hadn't heard of that issue. Most of the pictures on the Bob web site show the trailers hooked up to bikes with discs. Another option would be to Frankenstein the handle on a pull cart to attach to your seat post. That is however a less than ideal way to be securing that much weight.

From what I read, it's only certain disc systems that cause a problem. Besides, even if there is some incompatibility, it may prove minor enough to overcome.

If so, this would be a better solution than any bike mod, which might result in stability problems.
