I just picked up a road bike and it's the first time I've had to work with dual pivot brakes (actually my only experience with brakes was my Avid V-brakes on my mountain bike). With my road bike, from time to time, I've had a pad to close to the rim so I would loosen or tighten the tension screws (one per side) and found this to be very easy. Last night with my road bike I noticed one pad slightly rubbing on the rim...I checked the park tool site and found a diagram with the 'centering' screw, which I had, so I worked this until the pads were evenly spaced.

Anyway...the park tool site was fine for this, but not enough to give me enough knowledge about the these brakes, so I was wondering if there are any good websites with diagrams that explain dual pivot brakes and possible adjustments I may need to know about in the future.

Cheers.

Thanks for the tips ;)

After again having issues with my rear brake, I spent some time with them and learned the hard way. I found out that the brake wasn't securely mounted to the frame, so after tightening this, then re-working the centering screw (and one other bolt, which if tightened too much means the brakes won't re-open...?...it's on the right when facing the rear brake), it seems to be working fine.

Again, if anyone knows of a sit with good info on dual pivots, please pass along.

Regarding the closeness of the pads; I don't care what's "cool" these days (:)), I don't have my pads as close to the rims as most people because the wheels move side to side -- especially the front wheel -- when we ride out of the saddle.

The dual-pivot brakes are SO good that the pads don't have to be 1mm from the rim.
