Giant OCR 2 tires
View Full Version : Giant OCR 2 tires
i've had my giant for a little over a year now, and i'm upgrading a few features on it at the moment, one of the major things i feel like upgrading is the tires (Michelin Dynamic, 700x 25c, Formula Xero XSR-4 20/24H paired spoke, pulled it right off the site) any suggestions about what to get instead? preferably a 700x 23c, and if i do get something with kevlar beads, how much more should i expect to pay? i have about a 150 dollars to spend on a new set, but i can stretch it to 200 if i have to, (is that even enough to invest? i'm not sure about how much i should expect to put into the tires, only 15) so what are any suggestions?
For that bike/wheel combo, my LBS recomends Conti Ultra Gator Skins in 23c. We have some realy bad roads here in Aus and they stand up the best with the Kevlar belt.
Either Michelin Pro Race 2 or, my recommendation, Vittoria Open Corsa Evo CX
both in 23 section.... well within budget
Cheers
If you race, Conti GP3000 in 23mm.... Best road racing tyre there is.
If you don't race, Conti Gator Skin or Four Seasons.
Also if you don't race and you weigh more than 75-80kg go for 25mm in the above if you can get them. For you, they will roll, grip, and last better than 23mm.
Cheers Jay.

thanks for the help so far
i was going to race this year but during track (running, not cycling) i busted up my knee real good and was down for 3.5 months, which ruined my season for races, maybe in september i'll do a few, we'll see
what is 750 80 kg in pounds? i'm pretty sure i'm quite a ways under that, i'm 5 foot, 11 inches tall and way 125 pounds, so i'm on the light side (maybe a little understatement)
do you know about how much i'll have to pay for either the conti GP3000, or the gatorskins?
Not sure about US prices but here in the UK you can pick up a pair of either of those Contis for less than £40 ($69.70 right now).
Check on the web, there is usually a choice on ebay and in your favourite biking mag..
Oh and by the way if you really want to treat yourself to a real nice pair of tyres and don't mind replacing them every 4,000 miles, you might consider Veloflex black - 22mm section, beautiful tyres. In the UK they come it at about £50 a pair.
check out www.veloflex.it (http://www.veloflex.it) to see more about them
Cheers
