zipper fairing repair
View Full Version : zipper fairing repair
hey fellow bike lovers (or haters seeing as this is a teck forum),
i have a zipper fairing with cracks radiating from the attachment holes. years ago i tried rubber cement, which obviously didn't work. anybody know what product (glue and patch i assume)i need and where to get it? i have searched like crazy to find this info and it seems the question has not been raised, so this would be a good one to get in writing for others not as determined to register as i was (ive been at this for two hours.) thanks -ratty:confused:
First, make some reinforcement rings from thin polycarbonate sheet. They should be flat disks about three times the diameter of the bolt hole. These are going to be laminated onto the fairing at the holes. You'll want to use a urethane based glue as it has the best adhesion to polycarbonate.
thanks for the info.
for any others out there who need info on this stuff if found a great solution. go to urethanesupply.com and get their plastifix kit. the smal one goes a long way. this stuff is great. and when you do get it go to the hardware store and get some fiberglass fabric and use that with the kit (the kit explains how) cuz i tried to use just the plastifix kit and it wasnt strong enough.

Why don't you contact Zip and see what their replacement deal is? I used one in the early 80s and liked it but sure got teased by other riders. It could also act as a spinaker with a tail wind.
