well, yesterday i bought, for the first time, some cycling shoes, cleats and pedals. the toeclips came off, the new tiny pedals went on.

the story is a funny one.

well i put the cleats on my shoes fine, then tried it out - I spent about 5 minutes getting one shoe in, and 5 minutes getting the other in, and then it lasted all of 10 seconds before i unvoluntarily unclipped. this continued for about an hour or two, while i was thinking, well, i just need to practice, and i'll get it. but no, i didnt get it.

I texted my friend, who i went to decathlon with as he has got SPDs already, and we met up, this was half 9 at night, getting a bit dark, and told me that my cleats were on upsidedown!

having put them on the right way up, it works a treat!

Update: yes i have fallen off, didnt get to any traffic lights though! just stopped on someones drive to post something, and I forgot that I had these on, paniced, and fell! well, at least i've got the hang of it now!

Yup, takes a while to get used to. Once you do though, you'll never go back. I've just bought some eggbeaters and race shoes to replace my cheapy pedals and first pair of SPD shoes - I did it on the cheap the first time round to make sure I liked em :).

For your next set try Time MTB pedals. I have tried 5 pedals from 3 different pedal systems, and the Atim Atac Alums are great! If your delicate about what you step on, and have any knee discomfort than Speedplay are the best, but they are over priced.

my older brother just got his first road bike (he is 32, i'm 15), and i'm going to be taking him out to "teach" him how to ride it, and he doesn't want to go out before i take him, so i get the joys of laughing at him while he sits there and falls getting used to clipless....i'll have some quality brotherly bonding time lol
