View Full Version : If you are over 6'4".....
Can you tell me what bike you are riding. I am currently riding a 2003 Giant OCR2. It's too small for me (I'm 6'6") so I'd like to find a new bike. I'm open to suggestions.
6' 4.75", 165lbs (Yes, I know... I need to eat some cheeseburgers).
I ride a XL 2005 Giant TCR Composite 0. Love it.
I ride a 63cm 1500 2005 Trek, I am 6'4".
The shop I bought it from helped me out and changed stem, bars, etc so to get it set up correctly. Make sure you get a good bike fit done !!
Cheers Ohmic.
My husband who is also about 6'4" rides a 63cm Fuji Team. It's got a pretty long top tube that accomodates his long torso and arms.
6'5" and I ride a 62cm Merckx.
You should check out a custom bike, if you look around you can get a reasonable deal on one. Don't bother with Ebay, I have been looking for a decent track bike for a long, long time.
IMO most people get way too anal about frame fit (notice I did not say bike fit). I'm only 6'4" and ride a 60cm Cannondale, 60cm Pinerello, and 61cm Litespeed. A LBS would put me on a 63cm Cannondale, but I prefer a smaller frame with a longer stem (I have 130mm on my Litespeed and 140's on the other two), and jack the seatpost up to where it is comfortable. Since the geometry is basically the same all your "touch" points on the bike are identical. Look at the frames the pros ride, they are almost all too small by conventional standards. Oh I forgot, my tandem is actually a 58cm captain and I fit fine with a mountain post and 150mm stem.
You are a big guy, but try a longer stem and tweaking your seat before you decide for sure you need a larger frame, the smaller frame will be stiffer and handle better all other things equal. Seriously, the compact frame concept of change your seatpost and stem to fit, works on "regular" bikes too... if you already have 150mm or longer stem and a mountain post sticking out of your frame 12" then yeah your frame is too small, otherwise you don't need to change your frame for fit... just my $.02.
O.K., Just a fraction over 6'4", but ride an XL Giant TCR2. Used to ride a 63cm Cannondale, but I actually think that was a little large. Zinn cycles used to cater to taller riders, but that is only going from long ago memories.
Get the smallest frame that you can fit without being bunched up. And from there use the stem and saddle for adjustment.
6"6 218lbs steel torelli 64cm
fun to ride :D
