Rear Derailleur Noise in 17 21 23
View Full Version : Rear Derailleur Noise in 17 21 23
I went through and replaced all of the components on my bike, no upgrades - just new for old. All has gone well and as predicted. My last two changes were the rear derailluer (Ultegra 9sp) and my chain. The thing that I can't seem to get just right is the removal of the chain noise in the 17, 21 and 23 gears on the rear cog (which was also replaced, Ultegra 12-13-14-15-16-17-21-23-25). I have the h-l limits set fine, the b-limit aligned, and the shifting is smooth. This is my first rear derailleur replacement and maybe I'm just paranoid but I don't remember that much noise coming from those gears. Anything I should look for?

Very helpful.
After a good cleaning of the new chain and some Ice Wax the noise was much less obvious. Took it out for a ride and didn't notice it at all. I guess it just needed to be broken in, so to speak.

I was going to suggest that once you get it off the stand and on the road you probably wouldn't even notice it. Looks like that's the case. Good luck!
