I have been using the speedplay X pedal for many years on my old bike. As I've recently purchased a new road bike the Orbea Onix and some new shoes Sidi Genius 5. My pedals/cleats from my old bike are worn and definately in need of upgrading. Just looking for comments on other pedal system you might recommend looking into as speedplay is all I've ever riden. I've always like the float on the speedplay and the dual sided entry but on longer rides hot spots tend to be an issue. Thanks

People tend to recommend what they have the most experience with, which isn't always that useful as advice.......I am a case in point. I have been using Look pedals for the past year or so. I chose them for the large foot platform re. avoiding pressure points - so far, so good.

Look pedals are single sided, but it's not really an issue for road riding. The pedal always hangs vertically when unclipped and after a bit of practice it is easy to clip back in without looking down. Shimano SPD's also have a large foot platform, so theses might be worth looking at too?

I've used Looks for 3 years, Speedplay for 1/2 a season and now the new Shimano Ultegra PD-6610 which I would recommend over the other 2.

Looks with the red cleats provide a large platform and a decent amount of float. Like another poster said people tend to recommend what they have the most experience with. And pedals are a bit like saddles in that it comes down to personal preference.

Exactly. It is all personal preference. I like the looks, Speedplay, Shimano's and the Times. Currenltly i am running Speedplays, Shimanos and Times. They are all on different road bikes and i like them all, but my personal preference is to the Times.

Which Time pedal are you using? Why out of the these is it your personal preference? Any opinion on using the Time ATAC (mtn bike) pedal on your road bike? Pro/Con?

I've been on speedplays for 6+ years. Hot spots are usually a problem of shoe fit/sole stiffness (or lack of stiffness) not the pedal.

My original pedal was a Look style, Nashbar Ventoux. Replaced them this summer with some Crank Brothers Candy C, which I found for $25 at a local LBS. I liked them both and find the comments about preference of a "platform" to be not material. I go with what I can find inexpensive.

You might want to do a search, as this has been discussed to death. In any event, I am extremely happy with my Campagnolo Chorus Pro-Fit. Great pedals, campagnolo quality. Cannot really go wrong.

You could use the ATAC's but you will have a smaller platform.

I agree too-- it's about personal preference. I like my new Speedplay pedals. I had Shimano's on my bike before. The float of the Speedplay pedals took a short time to adjust to. I find the Speedplay's easy on my knees. :)

I agree, I have used Speedplays for the past few years on my older shows and never had a problem with hotspots. I switched to new shoes this year and suffered hot spots on several occasions. Once I got the cleat just right, they seem to have gone away. I actually may switch back to Looks though. I have had a couple instances of cleats braking on speedplays this year as well as a pedal related knee injury. I have also gone through two sets of X3's due to shoddy bearings. Currently I have X2's but with the new Look Keo, I'm thinking of going back to Look.

I switched from Speedplay X series to Shimano Ultegra pedals. I love the ultegra 6610's. Very very nice pedals. I've seen nothing but great comments on this site about them.

Recently I bought a 2006 six thirteen and although I had ridden Looks since 1984, I got Speedplays. I like them but was use to the look pedals. I gave the Speedplays to my wife and bought the Keo Look pedals. I really like the Keo. Fantastic pedal and the cleat is silent. I have now tried both and personally I like the Keo better. Just my 2 cents.
