Perhaps Jan can share just a bit of her vast knowledge about
depression here. Not the passing feelings of mild depression that
most people experience now & then, but the kind of ongoing, severe
depression that often results in crippled lives & suicide. Since Jan
is so sure about the evils of antidepressants, surely she must have a
great deal of expertise WRT the problem as well as easy, effective
solutions to make everything "right as rain"???

Strange that she should take not one but two antidepressants herself,
yet she wants to deny this sort of treatment to suicidal adolescents.
Very sad.

The most effective anti-depressant in adolescents is Prozac. The other ones
seem to be fairly useless. The recent reports have helped clarify what is
the most effective treatment.

Jan will not support this.

As we have just recently learned, the drugs themselves are causing the
suicides. But I realize it is A OK to you and Michele of the *gang* that the

Actually, "we" have learned no such thing. These kids were prescribed
medication because they have serious problems to begin with. How do you know
that it is the medication and not the underlying problem, called depression,
which is a cause of suicide? The answer is, YOU DO NOT KNOW, and thus, you
lied.

ahhhh...such an answer I would have expected from Janster...who has never ever
examined a person who is gravely depressed..thus suicidal...and for whom ANY
help is better than sitting back and doing nothing..

>> drug companies have been L Y I N G.

no Janster...you have NOOOOOO knowledge.. that anyone depressed enough to seek
medical attention would have been suicidal in the first place...

the drugs don't CAUSE the suicides..perhaps the drugs provide the ENERGY some
suicidal folks need to push them out of bed and into suicide...but the ideation
was surely there all the time

certainly we must be attuned to the dangers of suicide in the young...suicide
amongst teens and young adults is a very REALLLL problem..simply depriving them
of a drug class that MAY WELL prevent suicide is welll....malpractice

or maybe you have never known the anguish of comforting a family of a teen
found hanging from their closet rod...or treated a kid with overdose of Advil
in the ER...

course you haven't you dunce....Michele and I..and Rich,,Orac and Peter have
ACTUAL EXPERIENCE in this...you have only what you read by punching words into
a search engine..

YOU are the LIAR...by refusing to accept the gravity of suicidal ideation...esp
in the young...

YOU are an evil person who prefers to throw out an entire class of
drugs....without considering the "risk/benefit" ratio...

If it were YOUR kid or YOUR grandkid you would likely be feeding them your
Elavil...

hypocrite...sad..evil and unknowledgablel

NO ONE has ever said that meds don't have potential side effects...which in
some cases CAN be serious..even fatal..

however NOT treating a suicidal teen has a greater risk of tragedy

why don't you stay in the sandbox

Yep, energy increases before improvement in mood starts, docs can't
prevent all suicides but at least there are antidepressants to help
prevent many more than this newest scare is based upon. I'm worried
about how much these scares damage med compliance, doc-patient
relationships and such... I've read too many people just stop their meds
cold without even talking to their doc.

Scaremongering won't stop people from killing themselves, it may bring
it about *sooner* though. :(

It is called pathologic narcissism. Jan believes that she knows the
truth about many subjects.

It would only be a lie if Jan knows that what she is saying is false.
It is not clear that this is the case with anti-depressants. It *is*
clearly the case wrt her claim about mercury poisoning from amalgams.
Initially she believed that she was poisoned. Now she knows she was
not. This is why she deliberately changes her history to make it
appear as if her claim is credible. Jan is a psychopath.

Indeed. Obviously we have *some* idea that she is on these drugs
because #1 Jan told us she was on them #2 Jan never told us that she
had stopped taking them. I think that if Jan was able to stop these
medications that she would have told the group. She also has the
opportunity to tell the group *now* whether she still take these meds.
However since Jan is a psychopath she prefers to bear false witness
against others than tell the truth.

Jan could care less about the welfare of children or teenagers. She is
ONLY interested in herself and her vendetta against conventional
medicine. Anything advancing her agenda will be supported. Anything
opposing her agenda will be rejected.

She is only a liar if she knows that what she is saying is not true.
Let us not resort to Jan's tactics of gratuitously calling others
liars.

I certainly agree that Jan is evil.

You bet your life she would. Just as she takes Elavil and Neurontin
while criticizing those who take medications that only cover up the
problem. Is Jan Drew deficient in Elavil and Neurontin?? If not then
taking the meds is only covering up her problem. But Jan knows that
when she takes these medications that her pain is better. So she
selfishly takes these meds and criticizes others for doing same. Sad
that.
