Hi,

Long story short, a ex-roommate left in a hurry 3 months ago leaving among other things his bike. He has not been back for it and the thing is taking up space so I have decided to sell it. Trouble is I have no clue about bikes except that this one may be worth a bit of cash. Can someone give me an approx valuation on this thing please?

As I said I don`t know anything about bikes so this info may be a bit wrong:

Make: Specialized Max SL-X
Frame: Columbus Squadra Corse (Carbon Fibre)
Wheels: Shimano
Tires: Specialized Turbo 700x23c
Brakes: Shimano Ultegra
Gears: Shimano Ultegra
Saddle: Selle Italia

Thats about all I know from looking at the stickers. I have attached some photo`s, hopefully someone can help!!!

Thanks!

I'll give you $150 for it!

Seriously, you could get into some legal problems if you sell the thing without your room mate approving. Have you attempted to contact them, or is there some hostility that prevents it? If so, all the more reason make sure you dispose of his stuff legally.

Thanks! I agree that you shouldn't sell without good faith effort to contact the roommate.

Hard to price a bike from those photos, but ballpark $500-800 depending on how good it looks close up. Maybe more if in excellent condition and which model of Shimano wheels those are.

I have attempted to contact this guy but he seems to have disappeared off the planet. The bike is in Prague and I think he has gone home to the states.

Ebay it. Let the punters decide how much it is worth.

For someone who knows nothing about bikes, you sure do have a good command of the jargon.

Layman's term = Seat
Cyclist's term = Saddle

didn't give any superflous information that a non-cyclist might have given. You are to be commended on your ability to adapt to this forum so well for a newbie. Maybe you should consider cycling for yourself and keep that bike from rotting while you wait for your roomate to return. ;) How'd you even find us?

On second thought, if your roomate abandoned that bike, its probably not anything special. I can't imagine him abandoning a GOOD bike! Just throw it away. He'll be glad that you did and you won't have to suffer the guilt of knowing that you sold such an awful bike to some unwitting buyer. I'm sure you want to keep your integrity protected.

in the states, after a certain period of time (i think it's a couple of months or so, but don't quote me), it's legally considered to be abandoned property.

i'd at least call the police, give them the guy's name and last contact info, and see what they have to say before selling it.

anyway, it looks like the '02 Allez E5 slx comp. i'd guess that it cost somewhere around $1500 new. you might be able to get about 1/2 that + or -, depending on the condition. maybe less if the cassette, chainrings, tires, etc. need replacing.

Stolen bike. This is a about the third "...my roommate left a while ago, didn't pay rent (or something like that), so I'm gonna sell his bike...." Since eBay is a great place to sell a bike you ripped off, why not mine a bike BBS for info so you can make more off your stolen goods?
