I have a Campy Veloce 10 speed long cage on my bike (12-25) and I have repeated upshifting problems and the cable tension has been fiddled with by 5 different mechanics to no avail - it still shifts on it's own, even when not hammering:confused: .

Would a higher grade derailleur like a Chorus or Record with a shorter cage provide snappier shifting? Also, I have a climbing cassette (13-29) that I plan on using in a mountain climb competition next year -maybe (If I lose another 15 lbs, I may not need it!)The Campy site says a medium will accomodate that range, but could a short cage handle the span as long as you pay attention to where your gearing is, i.e. big ring /smaller cogs and litte ring/large cogs? Thanks!:)

If you use a short cage you do have to be very careful to avoid running big to big; remember Murphy's Law, "If something can go wrong, it will".It's not an issue if the chain is sized big/big/.That may casue slack in the chain when in the granny and small cogs, but there is no need to be there anyway.

That's what I figured (I kind of got into a bad cross-chaining habit after seeing Lance ride 53-25 up a mountain in the 2004 TDF).

Maybe medium is the "happy medium", pun intended;)

Thanks!:)You posted this on the 'other forum' and got told repeatedly by people that know, that it has nothing to do with cage length. The best diagnosis was that the G springs in the shifter were hosed. Are you just thick or worse?? A short cage will work with a 29 cog.

G strings in the shifter were hosed.
Can these be replaced? Expensive?

Even when you're right, you are an arrogant aZZhole.

Often full of yourself.

Always full of feces!

A bully and a jerk.

Do you enjoy being a feces bag?

Spin [me] the wrong way? Yeah, you do. Ever try to share your knowledge/wisdom/experience without being an arrogant, conceited aZZhole? Try it, you might like it.

I jusr re-read the original post.

I have recently seen 2 bikes with a similar problem. It had been dropped, the RD mounting bolt was slightly bent and now far too much play in the bush. Also the cssette did not run true, spin the wheel, hold the crank steady and watch the cassette wobble. A bent axle, a bent freehub bolt, a bent freehub, are all possibilities, I am replacing them, each one at a time.

Check this on your bike too, it may be drop damage.

HI Mr B, thanks for all the help with my Tri Project. ;)

What is a "looser", aZZhole? OTOH, you appear to be a real loser. And it figures that Bush & Co would have a jerk like you in their corner. Ever find all those WMDs, ****(cheney)head?
