You gotta be kidding me.
Saving his strenght for the battle with Zabel I bet. Eric may not have forgotten the finish at
Zolder by that dirty aussie prick

He is a habitual whiner so what else would you expect from him? I wonder what Millar will say after
his drivetrain trouble.
Armstrong had his worse prologue place in the past 5? Has he finished this low in a TDF that he won?

It doesn't make sense for any of the designated sprinters to "save energy" in the prologue - a
sprint victory in the next few stages could put any of them in yellow.
The amount of exposure they get from wearing yellow will garner an order of magnitude more publicity
than any other result they get for the entire year. I agree with Carl - McEwen is very likely to be
excuse making.

Wow, what's up with all the bashing of Robbie Mcewen here ? Sure, he fought for Cippo's wheel at
Zolder, but that's part of being a sprinter these days. Besides, have you seen any of the sprints in
this year's Giro ? They were really punching there, something I didn't see Mcewen do at Zolder.
(cfr. Pettachi vs. Naudusz)

On Belgian television, he said he wasn't really interested in the yellow jersey. He went up the
first "climb" of the prologue very slowly, to have a very good second part BTW. Also note that he
finished 101th, before Zabel (112th) and Petacchi (125th).

Nick, The year that Pantani won (1998), he finished like 80th or something in the prologue. I
realize they are two different riders, but the point is that prologue really isn't that good of an
indication of who is going to do well on the final GC.

That's a bit strong. Robby's OK, he's just a bit pushy and then complains if anyone else does the
same to him. But I did like Graeme Brown pushing him around a bit.

I doubt he's not really interested in wearing the jersey for a couple of days. What do you think
it's worth in UCI points, team bonuses, and kermesse start money, as well as personal prestige?
Why try to make a very good second part if you don't put in a decent effort on the first part?
Furthermore, given all the training these riders do, there is absolutely no reason that a single 9
minute time trial effort should affect his performance in the next few days.
http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/?id=2003/jul03/jul04news2 described Lotto-Domo as riding for three
hours (and other teams as riding as much as two hours more) on Friday. Do you think Robbie trained
with them or sat around and ate frites while watching Belgium vs. USA at Wimbledon to save energy
for the first few stages? Most riders probably rode three hours in addition to the prologue today.
Not just exposure, but real live UCI points and cash.

Pantani finished 185th in the Prologur 1998(if eurosport info was correct). All the journalists were
criticizing him and his bad shpe and lack of profesionalism... But then it was his turn in the
mountains and completely destroyed the field.

Well of course there are lots of kudos to the winner - maillot jaune, uci points, kermesse start
money etc.
But when the Likes of Lil Phigget and Dufferz get finished with the verbal pontificating and Het
Nieuwsblad, Het Volk, Het Laatse Nieuws, La Gazzetta dello Sport, L'Equipe et alii get finished
wasting paper and ink to please their capitalist slave masters, the biggest deadlegs of the day lost
only around 40 seconds.
Hardly an unsurmountable deficit over the next 22 days.
And who will be Maillot Jaune when they get back to Gay Paree?
A gregario with a new squad I think, maybe, e il sua maglia e bianco-celeste

Just wait for the excuses we hear from him after Petacchi beats him over the next few days.

But Graeme Brown IS dirty. Robbie just has a mouth. Yanks in this NG are sore because they have no
one who can sprint.

We do, but he's about 48 years old, has a tough time making it over the hills, and prefers
the keirin.
The footage I saw so him rolling away from the start fairly slowly. His comment about Petacchi was
you don't win 6 stages of the Giro for nothing
