Florida Bicycle Tours

Since 2001, over 90,000 cyclist's have joined Cycling Forums to discuss topics from general cycling to equipment, training, racing and travel or vacation destinations (especially in europe during the tour de france). We also feature an great deals in our online store, 100's of articles, classifieds and product reviews.

I am looking into starting a bicycle tour company in Florida and would like your input on the idea. Would anybody be interested in attending a 3-4 day bicycle tour in Florida and if so would you be interested in doing it during the summer?

This would include nightly camping in air conditioned tents and all meals included. SAG chase vehicle for full support and lead vehicle would take care of setting camp. Your only job would be to pedal.

No, Florida is not my idea of where to go for a summer tour.
However, I'd rather ride in 15 degrees than 90, 3 degrees than 95. Guess it's that extra insulation.

What skill level? What parts of Florida?

The rides would cover all florida, from the keys to the panhandle and the skill level would range mostly from intermediate to advanced. There would however be beginners level if there were a great enough demand

when you say intermediate to advanced what are we talking about??? How many hrs etc.

Others may differ, but I have never envisioned Florida as having particular appeal to bicyclists. Florida's primary appeal seems to be (1) the ocean/gulf, (2) theme parks around Orlando, (3) South Beach. These do not lend themselves particulary well to cycling trips. Florida is an end-point for various trips (including Adventure Cycling's Southern Tier trip), but IMHO, doesn't seem to have much to offer in the form of loop-trips.

The positives (1) Florida is flat, (2) airfares to FL are generally very low.

Flat terrain brings up an interesting point. On the one hand, cyclists don't like hills. On the other hand, without at least some hills, it gets awfully boring. I think that FL's terrain falls in the boring category.

Summer is a killer in FL - I would think that the natural season would be November to April.

Why "air-conditioned tents" ? If you are going to the trouble of installing air in a tent, why not motels/hotels instead? If this is primitive camping with air-conditioning are you going to run generators through the night?

Can you come up with a theme/particular attraction for your tours? Gulf-to-Atlantic, Key West, Everglades, etc?
