once i build up to more milage i'll be wanting to ride in and out of work - im based in new oscott
birmingham and travel the a452 chester road up through brownhils to cannock - its a 30 mile round
trip so will be a good regular exercise addition once im upto it

does anyone already travel this route? just wondering about safety as although it is generally a
single lane with speed camera's for 30mph most of the way it does have a 3 mile 50mph section and i
cant remember passing any cyclists on it come to think of it, although ive seen 1 or 2 travelling
back towards cannock on the evening

i'd probably look to do the journey 2 or 3 times a week on the bike

seeing the amount of traffic on the road going towards birmingham in the morning kinda makes you
think they all should be cycling it as would be quicker with all of the queu's although as i travel
against the rush hour traffic its always free flowing and not really busy my side of the road

Divert along some of the lanes and residential roads through Streetly -> (Little Aston, optional) ->
Aldridge -> Stonnal -> Chasewater?

From Tesco, you could even take in Sutton Park and say good morning to the Exmoor ponies on your way
to Little Aston.

Love and ideas from Rich x (Near Kingstanding)

Mail me if you want a more detailed route

i'll be having a difficult enough time of it doing the distance as the crow flies so to re-route
scares me more than the traffic ;)

That's understandable, but as the cycling to work bug takes hold, you'll be pleading for a few extra
miles - especially on your way home. There is a very nice pub in Stonnal!!!

Or perhaps it could be realistic to ride the A452 for most of the route but divert off the A road
just for the 50mph section you described? I'm not sure which section it is. Is it the section
leading up to Shire Oak?

Cheers, Rich.

im on a major health kick with losing weight, getting fit,etc ... i think a couple of jars after a
decent weekend trek out might be called for but after work jars ... nah! ;)

yes, it hits 50mph just there and goes for about 3 miles - the road is fairly wide in that section
so no major reason to feel more nervous about it than any other main road - i'll give it a go one
of the days and see how it is ... so far im only going upto the island just before streetly and
back which is 5 miles so it'll take a fair few extra miles to get me upto to 'work on a bike
fitness level'

luckily i have someone who can drive me home from work or to work so i'll be able to try it one way
a fair few times before going for the whole hog ... i'll probably wait until after me holiday end of
aug - take that long for me to get the legs anyway
