Look Pedals
Hi,
I am about to buy a set of Look KEO pedals and a pair of Sidi shoes.I am wondering which cleat I should buy.There are 3 types available with the pedal.These are for diffrent amounts of float.I have no knee problems.I am changing to this set up from SPDs and MB shoes which are causing my toes to go to sleep. I hope the larger platform will make a diffrence.Should I go foe full float or none or go in the middle.Thanks for looking.

i have some look pedals and shimano shoes, with a full float setup, it works good for me.
You should get the kind that is as close as possible to the amount of float on your current setup.

I would suggest starting with full float. It will feel weird at first, but your foot will float to its most natural position. Unless you are a sprinter or racing on the track, the tiny amount of lost power that might result from a little excess float will be ofset by the increased comfort in the long run. Whereas I do not think that your toes going to sleep is caused by the presence or lack of cleat float, if you already were perfectly comfortable, I would be more likely to support Artmichalek's suggestion.
I am a dedicated speedplay user and love the wide open free float that they provide.

Brown BeeLook Keo cleats available;
9.0 degrees float (red)
4.5 degrees float (grey)
0.0 degrees float (black)
I use the older style Look cleats and I use the red cleats (9 degrees of rotation), that’s what I’d recommend.
Regarding the numb feet. Keep in mind sometimes it’s the simple solutions that are the easiest. I ride with Look and Sidi shoes on my road bike, and SPD and MTB shoes on my tandem and MTB. I’ve found that if my shoes are too tight, my feet will go numb. It’s rare that my feet go numb, but if they do all I need to do is loosen my shoe(s) a bit and things are OK in a few minutes. Of course I’m assuming that your cleat placement is OK and your shoes fit, and don’t flex too much.

I bought my bike with the speedplay at first but hated the full float. I switched to the Keo with the red (9 degree float). The Keo is great and the float is just enough. They are very quiet with the teflon inserts. I also switched to the Rocket shoes which are amazingly comfortable and extremely light.

Speedplay Zero pedals can be adjusted to no-float. At about 200gms per pair they are lighter than the KEOs.

The zero speedplays release and entry are not as smooth as the Keo or the original speedplay in my opinion. The weight difference is not worth discussing.

Don't go for the zero float. Get one of the others doesn't matter which, and try it. Cleats are cheap and zero float require spot on alignment for your foot. If you have never used Look then setup the 9 deg and make sure you are comfortable. The wider platform is more comfortable. Also the little black rubber cleat cover is a must. If you use them everytime you are off the bike you will get a great amount of life from the cleat and not fall on your butt getting the soft drink at the quick stop with the shiny floors.
