Clamp for carbon seatposts
View Full Version : Clamp for carbon seatposts
Hi,
Can anyone tell me if it is neccessary to have a seat clamp that is specifically designed for a carbon seatpost or if you can simply turn the clamp around (I've heard that this distributes the forces a little more evenly.....not sure if this is true though!!!)?
Thanks :)
I had a mishap with a carbon seatpost in that I inadvertantly let the SC spin slightly so the SC slot did not line up with the slot in the seat tube, consequently the edge of the ST slot dug into the post.
So I found this page & now have my SC as suggested :-

I have never noticed any carbon seatposts clamped as recommended, by the above site, in any bike shop.
P.S. Unless this only applies to Specialized Composite Seatposts (unlikely)
campag carbon seatposts come with seatpost clamp. a clamp made to be used with a carbon post is designed to apply pressure through all 360 degrees of the post, therefore they are seatpost diameter specific. i'd recommend using a carbon post clamp just to be sure
