View Full Version : TSS vs. TRIMPS
The content of the TSS vs. TRIMPS article is:
can someone compare and contrast the pros and cons of each?
is it true that TRIMPS (the zone weighted variety) may be better at predicting training "stress" (i.e. am I going to crash and burn) while TSS might do a better job at predicting training "stumulus" (i.e. how much am i provoking addaption though exersise 'stimulus')?
Can anyone suggest a DVD I could use to help motivate me with my indoor trainer? There are so many spinning dvds out there. I didn't know if perhaps you guys have found a great one. Thanks for your help!

Honestly, I prefer music DVDs.

Thanks for your help!Kinda off topic don't ya think? You might try resurrecting a thread(there have been plenty) on this subject in the training forums. A TSS vs. Trimps thread is likely to attract the more analytic riders and personally I want to focus on my specific workout when I'm doing trainer work, maybe with some background music but I'm not following anyone's canned DVD program while riding the trainer.

you guys are a bunch of jack ass's. good to know!
boys....you make me laugh.....pathetic.....
One could make a strong argument that TRIMPS is really a TSS and TSS is really a TRIMPS.
Thank you for answering me. I appreciate it.
coco4288.... why don't you start your own thread on motivational aids during training.. it's completely valid? but why would you attempt to hijack someone elses' thread about some thing completely and utterly unrelated? some would say that it's you who is the jack ass.
i mean c'mon... i really thought you were making a joke since your question is just so out of left field... i couldn't believe you were serious... i'm still not sure... you can't be serious right?
but here is a tip... and i'm being serious... when you want to ask a question that is not related in any way to the topic of a thread you happen to be reading, just start a new thread for that question, it's that easy... or i promise you, you will get worse responses than these. what you are doing is considered to be incredibly rude... i mean, at least you could start your post by saying sorry for hijacking the thread but...
edit - even from your point of view... if you want your question answered... how many people who have an answer for you will click on a tread about TSS and TRIMPS in order to answer questions about trainer motivation.. it doesn't even make sense from your perspective if you really want to get your question answered.
I was all excited to calculate my TRIMPS from last Saturday's rolling terrain group ride and compare it to the ride's TSS. When I opened the workout in CPS I then realized I forgot that I don't wear a HR monitor anymore.:o
I stopped wearing mine, too, until about 3 weeks ago. I am having my PT repaired, so I've been going by HR. Problem is I don't have any workouts to use for comparison.
I've been estimating TSS for my "SST" sessions (I suspect they may actually fall in L3) by using my average heart rate, which I try to hold in a narrow range. Since AP is virtually the same as NP for these workouts, I should be in the ballpark.

I actually started to wear one on my indoor sessions so I can get an idea of what my mountain bike rides are in terms of TSS. Last year, I wired up my Polar but it died in a swamp.
