GC standing without TTT

View Full Version : GC standing without TTT

This would be the GC standing if you exclude the unjust team time trail

1 Alexandre Vinokourov (Kaz) Team Telekom -0:39 2 Jan Ullrich (Ger) Team Bianchi -0.09 3 Lance
Armstrong (USA) US Postal 0:00 4 Haimar Zubeldia (Spa) Euskaltel +1:07 5 Iban Mayo (Spa) Euskaltel
+1:07 6 Tyler Hamilton (USA) Team CSC +1:14

Uhhhh... riders do base ther current strategy/performance on their current GC standing, I think. Do
you not think that a Armstrong might have raced a bit differently without the lead from the TTT? It
is just stupid (to me) to speculate like this. He was less concerned about Vinokourov on l'Alpe
D'uez, since he knew he was well behind at that point.

unjust? Isn't it there every year?

I have to agree with you. The whole team raced the prologue and the first three stages to set up for
the time trial. Then they rode a smart race until the mountains, knowing that on the first mountain
stage Pena would no longer hold onto the jersey and Lance would grab it.

Doesn't anyone think Lance would have at least TRIED to attack in the mountains had he not already
been in Yellow? He has been riding defensively so far and using his team as the offense to save him.

Now, what would the standings look like if all the riders where forced to peddle only with their
weakest leg?

Now that is just foolish.

Enough of this already. Can't you just let it go?

The problem with this troll is that Steve McGinty already posted it a few days ago.

Regurgitating other people's trolls is sort of the RBR equivelant to doping in the cycling world.
Sure a lot of people do it, but it is generally looked down upon.

So, you are probably disqualified for troll of the month awards. Speaking of which does anyone know
the single day record for troll messages to RBR?

The previous reactions to your post are hilarious. It doesn't matter that Lance gained time in the
TTT? It's not even relevant that Lance gained time on Vino _only_ in the TTT? Please.

Imagine if the TdF had given Ullrich and Vino a 1 minute bonus at the start of the race, just
because. _Then_ these people wouldn't be saying that "we can't even know what would have happened",
or "yeah, and riders ride differently without a lead", or whatever. No, then they'd be quite sure
that Lance's opponents were given an advantage.

The point is not that the TTT is unfair, or amounts to giving someone an advantage, though, lest I
be misunderstood. The TTT is part of the race, like any other stage. But the point is that the TTT
is the only thing masking Lance's marked decline. And yes, it's easy enough to see that decline,
despite the desperate claims that Lance would still be leading had the TTT not happened. I don't
think these previous posters can really bring themselves to believe that, actually.

Lance is great, and a fifth win would be historic. But come on, already. He's in trouble. He didn't
win at Alpe D'huez because he couldn't. He didn't catch Vino-- two days in a row-- because he
couldn't. He didn't win the TT because he couldn't. He has yet to show that he can even match Vino
in the high mountains, and he can't even take more than 30 seconds out of Vino in a long time trial.
If the race keeps up this way, Lance will be out of yellow for good. Soon. And it won't be Jan
winning. It'll be Vinokurov.
