View Full Version : Is Mc Whiner for real?
From:http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/?id=2003/jul03/jul18news2
Robbie McEwen (Lotto-Domo) lost any hope of a stage win yesterday when he punctured on the Côte de
Saissac, but he still managed to rally for the bunch sprint and edge out green jersey holder Baden
Cooke. McEwen had a few words with Saeco's Gerrit Glomser after the sprint, as the Austrian
evidently was equally intent on mixing it up in the dash to the line.
"We fought to get into Baden's wheel," McEwen told Het Nieuwsblad. "I told the Austrian that it was
only for ninth place and that he has to understand that every point is important to me."
This makes any possible arrogance Lance has shown look like he was a penitent monk.

It happens a lot. Deals are made all the time. "Let me win today when you have nothing at stake, and
we'll help you out in the future."
What was of value for Glomser by finishing ninth?
However, McEeeeewwww did not say that Glomser consented, so he (McE) should have expected a
challenge.

I guess he thought it was worth a try. Don't people offer you stupid proposals all the time?
If the points breakdown was the same as it was for stage 1, then there is only a 1 point difference
between 9th and 10th (17 v. 16).
Here is the current points classification:
1 Baden Cooke (Aus) FDJeux.com 156 pts 2 Robbie McEwen (Aus) Lotto Domo 148 3 Erik Zabel (Ger) Team
Telekom 126 4 Stuart O'grady (Aus) Credit Agricole 122 5 Thor Hushovd (Nor) Credit Agricole 120 6
Jean-Patrick Nazon (Fra) Jean Delatour 111 7 Luca Paolini (Ita) Quick.Step-Davitamon 106 8 Oscar
Freire (Spa) Rabobank 83 9 Damien Nazon (Fra) Brioches La Boulangere 82 10 Romans Vainsteins (Lat)
Vini Caldirola-So.Di 81 11 Paolo Bettini (Ita) Quick.Step-Davitamon 72 12 Fabrizio Guidi (Ita) Team
Bianchi 72 13 Fred Rodriguez (USA) Vini Caldirola-So.Di 69 14 Gerrit Glomser (Aut) Saeco 63 15 Jan
Ullrich (Ger) Team Bianchi 62 16 Bram De Groot (Ned) Rabobank 62 17 Alexandre Vinokourov (Kaz) Team
Telekom 61
Generally speaking McE has more at stake than Glomser does.
OTOH, maybe Glomser was trying to do better so he could motorpace longer in today's TT
( 13km @ 44 kph ).
