Hi All:

Regarding the Bob Roll commercial on OLN where Bob thinks that "maybe I should change my act":

There are three segments in this commercial, and Bob imitates someone in each segment.

1. The first segment, where Bob imitates Howard Cosell
2. The segment. I have no idea who he's imitating here.
3. The third segment, where Bob imitates Phil Liggett.

Who is Bob Roll imitating in the second segment?

Thanks

Tracy H.

Michael

Kind of a John Madden (ABC Monday Night Football), but it's not an inspired imitation.

The only thing it has going for it is the huge belly and the hair.

Also, everyone in the world has done Howard Cosell and he has been dead for years.

There aren't many sportscasters worth imitating now.

The Ligget is spot-on.

It's supposed to be John Madden but it sounds more like Jay Leno to
me.

I thought it was a composite. It does sound like Leno, for example.

Geez. How old are these guys? Jimmy the Greek is the guy he's impersonating, and he does a good job
of it. For all you 20 somethings, Jimmy the Greek was an Atlantic City bookmaker who got famous
enough that one of the networks decided to hire him as a colour commentator. Well, Jimmy wasn't so
polished and he made some rather non-PC comments on TV. Nothing worse than you see on TV any day.
Now he is just another footnote in the stupidity that IS American sports broadcasting.

If it was Jimmy The Greek, then Roll should've done Madden instead. More obvious.

How about Keith "grand daddy of them all" Jackson? Or that soccer announcer who yells
"Goooooooooooooal" til his lungs burst? Or **** Vitale of march madness fame? Those are all pretty
easy to identify and spoof.

He looks like he is lip synching that bit.

Yeah, if they put a six-legged roast turkey in the picture, it would be easier to tell.

Nah, Madden uses the phrase "meat and potatoes kinda guy" all the time.

I don't remember if Telestrators were even around for Jimmy the Greek. It's Madden he's
impersonating.

It's confusing because he doesn't have a crash where can say "BOOM! Now THAT'S gotta hurt!"
