What would happen if Lance won his fifth, and wanted to race the TdF again next year, and USPS
finally pulled the plug on the whole sponsorship deal? Would someone take over the whole team as is?
I personally can't imagine USPS sponsoring cycling for another year, with 2 billion $ of deficit,
and a president who is asking for more fiscal responsability. Before you know it, all the hicks are
going to clamor about part of the price of a stamp going into sponsoring something like cycling.

I can't imagine USPS pulling the plug on a potential record breaking TdF effort by Lance. The
fallout would be huge.
Another thread said that OLN's numbers are doing really, really well for the race.

That's a joke, right?
G.W. has blown the US economy into the doldrums, his fiscal responsibility amounted to giving the
rich a tax cut.

According to usps.com, USPS is not supported by tax money so either there are some innacuracies in
that article or USPS is lying.
USPS lost 676 million in 2002. Insead of whining about 6 million in adverstising, I think they
should be more concerned about the other 670 million.

Your democratic party handbook is in terrible need of some new pages. Is there no Democrat with an
original/new thought? Jeff
I'm not sure where the numbers came from, but check this article.

I'm sure they would find another sponsor.........but the contract says tell 2004...........they
would have to pay more to get out of the contract!

Actually, certain fiscal conservatives are not too happy with the Bush Admin on budgetary issues.
The size of the federal budget has gone up considerably with things like a Cabinet-level Department
of Homeland Security and that's not even factoring in the War in Iraq. How does the Administration
pay for that?
Bush has cut taxes which means that the government will have to borrow. When the government borrows,
there is less money available for business capital investment.
Unless you're a socialist, you realize that capital investment and the resultant productivity gains
are what makes an economy grow, not underfunded government spending.

Right on Dude.
The poor proletariate will be paying for the Afghanistan/Iraq massacres for years to come.
But notwitstanding anything Greenspan might advocate, Gorgeous George has got his proverbial Tits in
the Wringer and will take the usual way out if the economy nose dives much more.
Reduce the interest rate and/or increase the money supply.
The latter of course leads to more inflation.

Gosh, if attacking sponsorship of Lance Armstrong is the Democractic strategy then we can be assured
of having GWB back again. LOL.

They could recoup a lot of this were they to establish express mail set ups at US airports where
people are told they cannot board with fingernail clippers, pocket knives, etc. Having these pouched
available at security points would garner plenty dough and help frustrated passengers.

Lance would be one of the most legendary cyclists in history if he wins a consecutive 5th. Even if
he doesn't win he is still the world's preemminent tour rider. He just signed a 5 year, 12 million
dollar contract with Subaru. There would be a line of companies out the door to sponsor him if US
Postal drops the team this year.

I'm not exactly sure how long USPS are committed for, but certainly for next year as they have
already contracted Slava Yekimov
But it is in fact an interesting question. The team is a bit pricey I would think for most potential
sponsors, but a deal with Bianchi could be one possibility although I think Armstrong likes Spain
better these days
