No, of course not. But, they should standardize the equipment used. The point of the hour record -- at least it used to be -- was to determine the best tt rider through the ages. If they're going to standardize the distance and the course (a velodrome) then they should standardize the bicycle as well.

But, maybe that's why no one does the hour record anymore... because it can't be taken seriously.

I think the appeals and procedures will last for years, and even if they are cleared (from a legal perspective) any win they have will be met with scepticism from part of the community, so they won't really be "clear".

That is a tough one, I will have to say yes though. Even though it is thought to be a dieing race, it has many traditions that will keep it alive. Racers also like racing this. As to weather it will stay a grand tour or not is up to the Cycling federation and all the revamping of the pro circut.

For Basso: He gets to ride the ProTour and continue his attempts to prove his innocence.
For the fans: Assuming Basso isn't subsequently charged, we'll get to see a great rider in a strong team.

Good question. In simple terms, Shimano has quantity in the market, and Campy has quality (please, no debates http://cyclingforums.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif). This hardly leaves room for a third competitor. However, due to SRAM's great product, if they can find a way to outproduce Shimano, we just might see some competition. That's sort of a "yes."

Yes, Discovery won't let him go easily. If Basso has a good pre-season, he is capable of winning both the Giro & the Tour...which will give Discovery the publicity that I'm sure they missed in 2006. The associated sales of Discovery apparel and Trek/Bontrager equipment can't be underestimated either. The only thing standing in Basso's way...is Operacion Puerto.

I don't know the details on those results you've mentioned, but to do that would require doing it for every other rider in all other races...not a desirable (or helpful) undertaking.

The make sense in the mountains, but switching back to full-size rings is far from seamless. There front der is the biggest issue. FSA makes a front der from compact that works very well.

I rode over some cobbled roads yesterday for the first time, and really if the section was any longer I'm not sure I could have done it. It was just brutal, way more difficult than I had ever imagined, the vibration robbed me of my speed and the feeling I had in any part that was connected to the bike – amazing.
