Polar IR help!?
View Full Version : Polar IR help!?
I have a Polar S725, but i cant get the watch to upload to my PC via IR.
I have a Polar USB IR reciever, but it doesn't seem to find my watch.
Any advice?
I had to tinker a bit to get it to work as well. Within the software, on the calendar, double click on the day and choose Add New Exercise. On that tab, click on the little watch icon (one of the squares down near the bottom right of the Exercise tab). Do this when you have the watch positioned in front of the IR. The software will then pull in the data. The watch may need to be set on CONNECT. See if that helps.
On my 720i I couldnt get the watch to upload and automatically open the software and place the exercise data where it belonged. That was originally how I expected it would work.
I find mine to be a bit finicky as well. I have a S720 and a no-name IR-USB adapter. Here's what I've found I have to do:
Do not connect your IR adapter yet!
1. Go to "Connect" on the watch
2. Select whatever file comes up (doesn't matter which)
3. Let it run through "100%", until the screen clears and only "Connect" and the little status bar on the right side is showing.
4. On your PC, in the Polar software, click on the connect button.
5. Now connect your IR adapter and aim it at the watch. The software should now find it.
Hope it works for you!
Thanks for everyone's help.
Neither of those suggestions worked.

Whats strange is, when i select an actual file via the connect screen on the watch, there's a little light that starts blinking on the IR reciever (so it looks like it's sending over the exercise file) but it still says "no answer from wrist unit"...
I then look in the folder, and there's no exercises.
urg... this is very frustrating....
FWIW have you tried going (presuming you have an IR receiver with USB connection) to Options, Preferences, Hardware and selecting irDA as the connection method
Also, you might want to try going to the Polar Website (http://support.polar.fi/PKBSupport.nsf/42256c2b001e0f6ac22567ed003b1334/42256c2b001e0f6ac2256e9000250709?OpenDocument) and get the USB removal tool and then download the latest IR USB drivers and re-install
Thanks for everyone's help.

I just checking on whether you put the watch into the connect mode. If you hit the bottom button on the right the watch should display "connect". once you have done this move the IR port of the watch around untill you get the word "com" stable on the watch.
Also if you have a laptop you will find that the type of USB controler used on some of the older models does not work well with polar equipment and you may need to go to a serial connector.
Yes, i had the watch in connect mode, etc, etc... did everything i was supposed to, tried every different way possible, and nothing.
Then i upgraded from 4.2 to 4.3 (or whatever the newest version is) of the software, tried it - success :D
So it's working now. Thanks to everyone for their help.
great to hear. I figured that you had put in connect mode but I had one of the guys at the club with a similar problem and that was the solution
