View Full Version : Computer Gone Mad...... in the wet

If you live on the coast north of Sydney Australia, you will know that it has been well below average rain fall for a few years now & especially the last few months. Well, all good things come to an end [for bike riding that is] & since June 1 hardly a day without rain.

I have been able to dodge rain [mostly] for quite a while. I have managed to pick a dry hour or two the past week to fit a ride in. Today though, I intended to sneak a 20 k-er in but got carried away & continued on to a 54 k ride I often do. It did not actually flog down but I did get wet enough to tip water from my shoes.

To the Q, my computer, an echowell F2 wired with cadence, went haywire when the contacts got wet.[Edit:- I'm assuming this is what caused the problem My old cateye actually stopped when its contacts got wet] At times I was spinning at 230 & going up hill at 40 kph & my 54 ks turned out to be 59 ks & as for average speed 33 kph [if that were only true] Time of 1h 47m is right but as for the rest of the data wrong, wrong, wrong.
Besides getting an indoor trainer, does anyone have any suggestions like a waterproof spray for the contacts, vaseline maybe, to prevent water from affecting the accuracy? OR seeing that it adds more distance to my riding, keep it quite:D

Thin coat on entire contact surface, including the electrical contacts.

Happens to me here (Florida, USA) all the time. (Once set a PR for speed in a rainstorm: 165mph!!!!!).

If it really matters to you, you can zip tie or tape a plastic sandwich bag over top of the unit.
