View Full Version : Women's bike recommendation please
My SO has recently become interested in cycing after I picked up a cheap 2nd hand (25-quid Halfords
job) MTB for her to try out. However, due to a lower back problem she thinks that a more upright
riding style would be more comfortable. We're relucant to change parts on the current bike cos it's
v. basic and v. heavy. Therefore we're looking for a hybrid type bike with such a riding position.
Any recommendations?
Models that might fit the bill are the Ridgeback Rapide series (Comet, Velicity) or Adventure K4
(but the women-specific versions have twist shifters which I think are naff) or Dawes Saratoga or
Chilliwack. Budget is £200-300. What else should we be looking at?
TIA,
Martin

Cannondale makes used woman MTB, with a bit of luck you should be able to find one in the
price range.
Alternative ly you could also start out by trying a shorter higher rising stem and perhaphs a
riser bar.
Kind regards

Before shelling out, I'd have a look at the Guru's pages:
http://www.sheldonbrown.com/pain.html#back
This page helped me sort out my aching backside problems: tilting the saddle a few degrees in the
right direction made all the difference! Maybe it can help your partner with her back pain.

How is that meant to read?
Cannondale makes /used/ woman MTB ??
As it's very difficult to make a used bike I have to assume that you meant.....
Cannondale makes /used woman/ MTB
Do they actually advertise them as this?? ;o)

Well sorry for my less than perfect english, it's my third language.
What I meant to say is that Cannondale makes MTB's for women, and that getting a used one would be a
way to get a bike with the right geometry for the available amount of money.
Hopefully now everybody can understand what I tried to say:-)
Kind regards
