View Full Version : Internal vs derailleur?

I'm 47 and startied biking late in life--I ride for recreation and have a cruiser with a 7-speed derailleur that I bought for 99 bucks at a department store. It's not a great piece of equipment, but rides OK--it suited my purpose and budget when I bought it. Anyway, I've had it about a year and can already see that it's not holding up all that well--hope I get another year or two out of it, but that's questionable. When I do repalace it, I'm thinking of going to another cruiser with a 7-speed internal hub. Any thoughts on how big an adjustment that would be? Also, any suggestions on a particular bike? The Trek "Clyde"
fits the profile, but I hate the idea of spending $459 for something I wouldn' ride a lot.

Best, Bill

If you bought something more satisfying you may ride more often. Look at road bikes, all types, drop bar, flat bar, the more gears the more fun, the skinner the tyres the faster it goes. :D

The main thing, go to a bike shop and make sure it fits correctly, like a pair of shoes or a bra!
