I think it is pathetic how you make an athletes alleged use of performance enhancement a certainty because of a DUI car accident many years after retirement. With Flo-Jo and Pantani you do the same calumny. Which is even more heartless since they are dead. Marco Pantani never failed a drug control! I will not repeat my arguments of past years with you. You can recall them easy enough. The man suffered from depression after he was continually and mercilessly attacked for 4 years by media and judiciary powers who still have not proved a thing against him, or have a shred of evidence that he ever cheated. A story that cries out for justice. Not your pathetic jump on bandwagon labeling of him as the poster boy for the sick sport. If you would get out a little bit and read something outside the stats you like to collect, you will discover that both Carl Lewis and Marco Pantani have spoken and crusaded for the cause of getting the drugs out of their sports. Yes they were on the avantgarde of drug free sport.Carl Lewis is and still is a screaming drug addict.

Apparently you don't get out much.

He even high speed crashed his Jaguar on HWY 101 recently.

Olympic Gold Standard (so-called) drug testing ALLOWS for:

testsoterone
hGH
insulin
EPO
IGF-1
blood transfsuions
Clomid
Salbutamol
certain classes of amphetamines
Viagra

btw: How is Flo Jo doing? Oh---I forgot, she had heart failure like Pantani.

Could it have been that the reason for Lance's retirement wasn't so much that he wanted to retire at the top of his game, but rather that it was becoming increasingly difficultf or him to beat the drug testing procedures that have been getting more precise? If Armstrong was racing against other cyclists who weren't doping and was able to beat them in 7 tours de France, what an awesome achievement. But we now know he was racing against professionals who were indeed doping and he beat them in 7 tours de France. How plausible is it that he was able to do this while being completely clean himself?? I mean really, wouldn't it be incredible enough to win 7 tours on a level playing field of professionals, but win 7 tours against professionals that were taking performance enhancing drugs? And not just winning, but crushing them? I was a huge Armstrong fan until I realized how prevalent doping is in the sport and now I have a very difficult time believing he could have crushed the doping competition in 7 tours de France, while being clean himself. Maybe he is a cycling god, but I no longer view him as that. Many of the professional cheats vehemently deny they dope...until they are caught. Hell, some deny it even after they are caught. It would be too devestating of a story to cancer victims to ever reveal drug usage by Armstrong.

Another LIVE WRONG Nike commercial?

Most drugs remain untested for: insulin, hGH, female hormones, cow blood, RSR-13, EPO can escape test, exogenous testosterone, most corticoids, human blood packs, etc....

Mr. Pharmstrong's myth is busted. Cancer victims are in deep trouble if they ever rely upon a Nike, a yellow bracelet or $300 sneakers lie as a cure.

I don't get why if it was never proven that someone was doping & He won races how that makes him guilty? What am I missing here? Testing negetive makes you guilty?

I guess it pays to lose 'cause apparently being the best makes you a cheater.

I suppose I don't need to train...just gimmie some dope & I'll smoke everyone.

I hope people with this mentality pass a breathilizer test & get arrested for a DUI 'cause they must have cheated somehow therefore that makes them guilty in a court of law as well as millions of people who you don't even know. :p

Hein-Verbruggen

You got. The drug tests are set up for cheaters to pass.

They all dope, winners and losers. (winners get better the drugs and methods)

Typically, the losers (worker bees) dope more often. (all season)

LIVE WRONG! Cheat to win.

Your limited knowledge is showing through.

The USA is currently under a methamphetamine epidemic that is destoying entire communities from people in poverty through the middle class and yet despite this epidemic the issue of PED's has been in the all over the upper levels of our political system and is still being discussed. The senators are looking into the issue of PED'S far more deeply than other important issues. I wouldn't call that hiding it or not confronting it would you?

There are other countries around the world where one can go in off the street and buy PED's over the counter at a pharmacy, but one cannot do that in America unless they have a true medical need.

The problem is that in USA (and other countries of cours ie: Spain) it is far too easy for a pro athlete of any sport to turn a $$$$ hungry doctor over and get what they need with professional guidence on how to use it.

I've read your comments in a few forums already and you really seem to know your stuff. I must admit I agree with alot of your opinions especially when it comes to testing ie: "The drug tests are set up for cheaters to pass".

I also believe that the big $$$$ from sponsors are prtecting certain athletes and it seems the Americans have alot more protection than other countries.

What I don't understand is that when an athlete is cought "cheating" by WADA or IOC why is he the only one blamed for the cheating. If you compare it to the street drug abuse the authorities are always after the "big fish" the dealers, the gangs the mafia. But in sports the atheletes who are just simply equivalent of a "user" or a "junkie" are persecuted in public while the "dealers" of the drugs they are taking continue to operate in anonymity.

I want to know in your own opinion why you think we never see the name of the Pharm company that supplied the EPO or other drugs to the athlete on the front page of the news paper (as in the Balco case)? Wouldn't the fight against doping be more effective if we went straight for the heart of the problem and hit them where it hurts (stock market)?

very good argument. The story of "King Carl" is the best argument to show amercian way of "handling doping".

I guess there are still people in USA, who believe that Landis and Pharmstrong were clean http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/aktion/action-smiley-061.gif. But at least Landis will loose his tour-win and stage win, cause he was at least - in contrast to Pharmstrong - one of the most stupid dopers and tour winners.

More than 100 American athlets were tested positive between 1988 and 2000. Those athlets won 19 medals at olympic games. That seems to be the "American Way" to treat the doping problem of there Doping Mashines.

Give the medals back to the real winners and take them away from the cheaters!

Or you can suspend them for 4 games send them to the pro bowl and give them a mega million dollar contract ala Shawn merriman SAn Diego chargers.

I hear the Russians are starting the doping at a young age these days.

In the United States, football athletes commence oral steroids by age 15, BEFORE the 10th grade.

The USA cheats as well as any nation.

Old news! I can dig too but mine was today's news.

Agreed. An old tale of cheating and denial in the USA.

Doping at American high schools has been on-going for 100+ years now.

PEDs are rampant at US high schools. There are 17 million US teenagers enrolled in grades 9 thru 12 and 600,000 to 1,000,000 of them abuse steroids.

That means most of the JV & Varsity football team, wrestling, tennis, swim, track, and gymnastic squads know all about steroids, diuretics and stimulants.

Steroids were present at ASU when Reggie Jackson played baseball there--long before Baroid Bonds showed up. USC was a pharmacy long before OJ Simpson, Rod Martin and Mark McGwire appeared in the gym.

This isn't an American problem guys, it's worldwide.

BUT, US visitors to the site seem to very naive if they think their athletes don't dope.

Lance Armstrong - got a backdated prescription for using steroids to cure "saddle sores" which was accepted. Are you serious? Why the hell would anybody take steroids for saddle sores? Steroids weaken the skin. You couldn't make it up.

Carl Lewis - It's in the public domain that there were many cover ups by the US drug testing authorites and Carl was the highest profile name. If your looking for a clean american sprinter, try Calvin Smith - former world record holder.
For the idiot who used Linford Christie and his Ginseng argument - never wondered why Christie looks an olympic weightlifter??? or been curious how he later got a positive test and then retired? (think his last excuse was he had been taking medicine for a cold - lol). Explain to me how all the top sprinters look like they cold lift up a buffalo with one hand. A: STERIODS

If he's never tested postive then he's clean? Sorry, this is a pathetic argument - Ullrich never tested positive, Basso never tested postive, David Millar never tested positive.... Need I go on. These guys are cheats. 95% of the pro peleton take stuff. They could not compete otherwise. I'm sure they would prefer not to cheat, but that means they can't compete - they loose their livelihood.

Back to Armstrong - TDF legend. Ex-discovery members include Heras (busted) Hamilton (busted) Landis (busted).... Destroyed the rest of the juiced up field after suffering cancer. Work it out guys.

Have you never wondered why all these sprinters/cyclists/ pro sportsment have asthma, colds ...etc Because the medication contains sh*t they can use as an excuse to sidestep a drugs test.

Was Lemond on drugs? The man hated and despised by all the Armstrong and Landis fanboys?? I don't know the answer to this, but Cyrille Guimard said Lemond was an extraordinary talent that could compete "without preparation" - read into this what you will. I guess Lemond did take minor stuff but wouldn't take EPO which the rest of the field started taking early 90s and was blown away by consequences.

Seriously guys, wake up and smell the coffee. (I must stress this aint an american problem though, it's worldwide in sports)
