ha!! I didn't know that.
Cecil Walker are about the cheapest for Shimano, Columbus forks, Campag wheels, and a lot of other stuff, but not tyres
Before I buy any Shimano stuff I check Cecil Walker's price
I just ordered a couple of Ultegra derailleurs from probikekit (I'm not in any hurry, LOL) and they were way cheaper than CW. But CW seem to be the cheapest on the planet for the Dura-ace DT shifters.

Oh no....I've just been sketching a steel aero track frame over lunch.
I'm gunna do one one of these days I swear I am. Gunna nickel plate the entire thing.
And no, it won't be 531 and cost 80 bucks. :p
Max is actually pretty nice Nev. If you just use the top and downtubes and use Zona or Life for the rest, that is one sweet spec.
If however you use all the Max tubes and make it lugged for fillet brazed then yeah, it'll easy be 2kg.:cool:

yeah, and some of them old Thron and Gara frames are ANVILS!!That's because the tubing on Thron is typically .8mm butted and Gara is straight gauge .8mm.
Quick comparison of 35mm downtubes....
Gara - 401g
Thron - 329g
Zona - 271g
Life - 234g
Spirt - 220g (this is actually a 38mm as they don't make a 35)

Nickel rather than chrome?
It will need regular polishing.

Anyone know anything about aerobars for track TT & pursuit events? What's the diff between a set of bolt-ons for <$200 versus an integrated unit for >$500?
I can't get my head around how they would give you a better aerodynamic profile, the bolt-ons look like they'd lift your torso up a fair few inches unless you actually dropped you bars down to the bottom of the exposed steerer tube first. Ideas?

Hey! Lance used one, must be good! Ok, I know it was on the front but a DT shifter is a DT shifter - isn't it? http://cyclingforums.com/images/smilies/confused.gif
They are way lighter than brifters, so how come the weight weenies aren't all over them?I don't know why folks who are competing would tolerate the weight and the concurrent change in the steering that brifters bring to the table. Not to mention the fact that there are two kinds of brake levers: those that have been crashed, and those that will get crashed. Losing a brake is one thing, losing the drivetrain is entirely another. Plus, working on them is a total bitch. Campys are a horror of wee tiny bits and ShimaNos cannot be worked on at all (which is why they're a third less than Campy. Until you break it).
As well, in a race situation, you can fake out the others in the bunch by reaching down with your right hand as if to shift the rear, and instead grabbing the other lever and shifting to the big ring and attacking. Works best near the summit of a hill, but can be used any time.
Won't ever give up my DT shifters, thank you.

oh yeah....knew about those ones. No self respecting Pro Tour TTer would be without his bar-end shifters.
But 10v down tube?
Both Campy and ShimaNo make them. Good luck finding them though. There was a set of 9v Campys on eBay this past spring...

I think you just told us the difference - price !! and yeah, maybe some small technical issues but surely bolt ons will go low enough for ya. If not get a new stem that lowers it even more.

Wow this server is holding up a lot better!
Anybody got any advice on lights? Something I can actually see by and is rechargeable.
The bloke at the avanti store has the vision sticks on closeout for $135. Worth it?
What do you guys do for rear lighting? :D

I think that's why Columbus ended up taking over from Reynolds in the 80s, coz SLX, MAX, etc, was stiffer, but it got heavier and heavier until Genius came out. Some of those over-size Columbus MAX frames are bricks -- there's a 56cm at my local shop which is about 2150g!!
hey! My Merckx was MAX!!!
And about 11kgs....:D

Can't. Fitzroy sold it to some "dood" who put (gasp) SPDs on it and rode around Fitzroy/Carlton with a Crumpler and cargo shorts.
Broke my heart.
Ricey told me later on it cracked at the BB eventually (must be the first ever broken MAX) and the guy turfed it.

I have a couple of vision sticks. They do the job pretty well, about 2 hours or so on the 5w light.
Rear is just a flashing multi LED light, and one of those tiny singles bungied to my helmet as a backup.

And about 11kgs....:Dha!! I just saw a brand new orange one at Kennedy's which is Columbus MXL. A guy there had just bought the frame and fork for $2300, and says he's not even gunna ride it!! He's just gunna hang it on the wall!! Kennedy said MXL is a custom MAX tube-set that most of the Motorola guys rode in the early '90s
