The Thread about Nothing....
Hello everyone
This has absolutely nothing to do with the current thread but is a plea for help in saving my friend's life. He is about to leave the UK with his wife to spend a year cycling Australia on a tandem. They intend to Circum navigate the whole country. The trouble is I'm not too confident about them knowing what they are getting themselves into. Every Aussie I speak to just says that they will definitely die. They want to do an online tour guide for people and blog their entire trip. The website is quite nicely set up and the message boards are in place for all sorts of advice on places to visit and ways of dealing with saddle sore, but they don't really know anything themselves. Any chance of some of you posting a bit of your expertise and knowledge of Australia on there for them. The website is www.flammin-saddles.com (http://www.flammin-saddles.com/)
I'd be eternally greatful if you could help.
Cheers
Most Aussies are full of crap about the dangers in the outback. Australia is one of the most highly urbanised countries on the planet- the average person wouldn't have a clue. Plenty of people make the same trip by bicylce every year. Your friends will be fine. As long as they are well prepared, have plenty of water for the more remote areas, and watch out for the 'road trains' they'll be ok.
There are specialist websites devoted to long distance touring in Australia, even specialist parts of this forum.
Cheers

When my Aunty from Yorkshire came over here once, she came to visit but refused to step off the back porch to check out our garden for fear of 'critters'.

.........I had a grief counselling session on Sunday at 'The Daily Planet'.......
I was told that the Planet used to have a registered business name of "The Elsternwick Bistro" that showed up on credit card statements to make explanations easier...... Still the case? :D

Eh by gum! You have Yorkshire rellies? We had a similar experience with Mr Matagi's aunt (also from Yorkshire). My parents-in-law decided to show her the country, so they drove from Melbourne to Canberra, and the poor thing absolutely freaked out at how remote and uninhabited the route was (we're talking the Hume Hwy here, not some circuitous route taking in outback NSW)

LOL. When I shared a flat in Kew with my brother we used to walk down to the Clifton for a counter meal at times & you would get a parma, a pot (that's a middy for you northerners) & a stripper for $9.00. That was good value...:)
