View Full Version : Racks for road bikes?

My boyfriend and I are planning on flying to Germany with our bikes next summer. Our plan is then to ride to Amsterdam which is about 200 miles.

Because we don't want to have to wear backpacks, can anybody tell me if there is even such thing as a rack for our bikes?

We don't want one of those racks that connects only to the seat post because we don't want to risk ruining the bikes. We also don't have the little holes where most racks need to be screwed into (he has a Specialized Roubaix Comp, and myself a Specialized Dolce).

My boyfriend says that there are racks out there that will attach the same way that the wheel does, but we haven't been able to find any.

Thanks a ton for all the help!

Edit: Front rack suggestions would be helpful too :)

How about trailers instead. Not something I'd normally recomend but if you wont to ride the bikes that you have..........

Cheers

You'll need panniers such as the attached pic. Google PANNIER and get all the info you need.

Whether you can and whether you should put racks on a road bike are very different questions. I'd never put racks on my baby!
If you insist, you could fit the Old Man Mountain Cold Springs or Sherpa rear racks (rear skewer and seat stay clamp attachments). Go easy on the bumps, load lightly, keep your tyres adequately inflated and put on the largest rear tyre that will comfortably fit between the stays.
I'm not sure how you'd consider attaching a front rack to a carbon fork with no v-brake bosses. Common sense suggests that it would be a bad idea.
