What NEW Watch Was Armstrong Wearing?

View Full Version : What NEW Watch Was Armstrong Wearing?

Hey all,

On the last days of the TDF it appears that Lance has a new watch. I am talking about the one he
was wearing on his way to the finish line, I guess it is his new cycling watch. It is not the
Nike watches that he used to wear from Nike. This one was different. Maybe it is a new model from
Nike but I did not see it on any of the sites at Trek or Nike, even the ones that allow you to
buy some of the cycling gear. Anyone have any ideas or know what watch Lance is now wearing while
he is on the bike?

Might not have been a Nike watch at all. From Floyd Landis' diary on Cyclingnews.com
(http://www.cyclingnews.com/riders/2003/diaries/floyd/tour.php?id=floyd0312# Enough)

"Today, Pat Mac and Kiko from Oakley came by the hotel and gave us special engraved Oakley
watches. They've got our names on the back and commemorate our TTT win on Stage 4. That was really
nice of Oakley."

I don't want to get in to another "thump on Lance" thread, but his taste was never something I
admired. At least his team kit seems to fit these days. He use to have his shorts that did not
fit and he would never pull them up correctly. Hey, it won't keep you from winning the Tour,
but still...

Oh, yeah. There is more possibility for the watch. It may be from the new heart rate monitor sponsor
(Sigma?). If it has a white base with red and blue, then that is the Tour version from the new HRM
sponsor. He also wears the Oakley and Nike watches as noted elsewhere in this thread.

It's a new model from Nike - The Lance 4. There was an article about it on his website during the
last week or so of the tour. The page should still available at
http://lancearmstrong.com/lance/online2.nsf/htmltdf03/nike if you're interested in the specs.

The marketing geeks at Nike should have named it "The Lance 5"

In looking at the specs I noticed the "extra loud hydration alarm". I guess they are re-thinking
this feature after the TT.

I'm waiting for the upgraded Lance 5 version with the brake-rub alarm, musette alert and
bird-**** sensor.
