LA wants Phil out.
View Full Version : LA wants Phil out.
Lance wants Phil out of the OLN booth next year. Lance feels that Phil is a euro-snob that thinks
Armstrong doesn't deserve the yellow jersey, because Armstrong had to use hard work and
preparation to obtain it (Euro-snobs consider that cheating). Liggett much prefers a David Millar,
born to the upper classes, that upon winning the ITT bragged about how he didn't prepare (not
cheating) for it. Lance wants to show Phil how it feels to be kicked out on your ass, by someone
from the "lower class."

The reason you can tell it is a troll is that, although you can tell from his broadcast
commentary that Phil is a fan of David Millar, he is also been most complimentary of Lance for
the last five years.

Actually, what you describe has been a traditional part of the English psyche. A good example is
Scott of the Antartic, who became a national hero because he died after being beaten to the South
Pole, and put up a jolly good show when face with meaningless death. On the other hand, Amundsen was
reviled, at least in England, because he made it and survived, but ate his dogs in doing so. Scott
had poneys, which he had to kill, but refused to eat.
By the way, there was a subsequent British expedition by Shackelton, in which everyone survived
(they ate their dogs too). Not too consistent with the loser Scott, but these guys didn't have too
much opportunity to be heroes, as World War I overshadowed their exploit. Ironically, a large
percentage of that expedition died in World War I, just a few months after surviving the harshest
possible conditions shipwrecked in the Antartic for a year. There is a good book and later TV show
based on this interpretation of Scott's expedition: The Last Place on Earth.

Lance and others will come and go but the Phil and Paul show will continue for
years....even on OLN...
Phil has been doing this for 30+ years...Don't think even Lance can do something about it...

Bugger, I was going to see the film at Imax, but you just spoiled the ending for me.
