Lance Armstrong's kissing
View Full Version : Lance Armstrong's kissing
My wife pointed out to me that LA always kisses the podium girls three times each, while everyone
else kisses them twice. Besides just getting his money worth, can anyonen explain why he does this?
Do Americans get extra dibs?

In France you tend you kiss twice when you meet someone, in Belgium you kiss once if it's someone
you don't know well, 3 times if it's someone you know well. Maybe he spent too much time in Belgium?

Or in Switzerland. They kiss three times there too. No clue why.

This is actually in cyclingenews' faq. It basically say, "Whatever, just 'no tongue!'"

In France, different regions and different social groups kiss different number of times- 2, 3, or 4.
For instance, I've noticed most Parisians do 2 while those in the suburbs do 4 (maybe it's because
Parisians are in more of a hurry ? :) It can get awkward if you're a 4 kisser and the other person's
a 2 kisser, you tend to get left hanging with a dumb look on your face waiting for the 3rd. In fact,
people sometimes announce how many kisses before they start ("4 fois" or "2 fois").
My guess is that Lance's experiences when he lived in France were in a region where 3 was the norm,
and that's just what he got used to.
BTW, the (yellow) podium girls were interviewed in France and they said they were hoping someone
else would win. They were tired of always kissing Lance, it was getting boring. Is that
anti-american?

Calling you a dumbass is not nearly as stupid as wondering whether a few podium girls are
anti-american.

Belgian may be once or thrice, but in Holland it's definitely three. He used to date

IT WAS A JOKE, WANKER. Do you really believ that any slightly negative Armstrong comment can be seen
as anti-americanism? Plonk Plonk.

times. ugly chick just one cheek. this was taught to me by the french themselves. watch and see for
your self. it holds true.....

not large enough of a sample. what did they say about kissing hamilton?
Don't know, it was only the yellow jersey girls who were "complaining", and so far, TH hasn't
had that honor. I'd guess they'd probably like the change, they'd have to bend down to get to
Tyler's level.
BTW, we all agree that the podium girls who present the White jersey are the hottest, right?

I'm French and this is a very good summary of the situation, except that Paris suburbs would still
be two. You have to go to the countryside to hit 3 or 4 ;-)
People would say "Ici c'est 3" !

so if you see people in Paris do 3 or 4 is it safe to assume they're not Parisians?

But "ici" doesn't rhyme with "3" in French...

That's true for regions outside of Paris where everyone who lioves there kisses the same. In Paris
(except for "true Parisians"), people come from all over France (often against their wishes), so the
protocol isn't as uniform as other parts of the country.
In France, men also kiss on the check in greeting depending on their geographical location and
social position.
