The lost of my best friend, Mimi.

It hasn't been easy to lose a pet. Mimi was my best friend for more than 10 years. She is a miniature Pincher. Somewhat reclusive and very protective of me. Her bed is in my room and she loves to sleep with me in the bed. She had diabetes about a year ago. Since no one in the family had any knowledge about diabetes, we didn't know what to look for. Apparently, she was overweight and didn't do much exercise. It all happened overnight. She began to lose a lot of weight but managed to remain somewhat active. We switched her diet to Dr Hill's canie food. She managed to live very strongly despite of her condition and the advancing cataract. She was literally blind but still running for food and trying to jump on to my bed.

About few months ago her cataract had gotten worsen. Cataract in a very advanced stage. I knew there would be a time to put her to sleep. 2 days ago I believe she went into a state of shock because she refused to eat and had trouble just standing. She was vomiting as well. I knew it was time. Her condition improved somewhat the next morning but there was a part of me that wasn't sure if I should put her to sleep. This morning, 10/23, when I woke up to go to work, she refused to get up and didn't eat anything. I knew I had to make my decision today. Once I got to work I called my local vet and schedule my dog to be put to sleep.

Waiting from 9am till the appointment was the most stressful thing I had gone through. Part of me was worrying if she would die alone and part of me I had to take care my duties at work. I got off from work 30 minutes earlier and got home about 7pm. I was so glad she was still awake. I immediately took her to the vet. Because of her cataract and walking condition, she hasn't been outside for a long time. I could tell she was very excited when I took her to the vet. I got to the vet and holding her in my blanket. Not sure what to make of it but a young girl rushed into the vet and cried out about her dog got ran over by a car. I was there to put my aging dog to sleep while another dog with less than 2 years of age got killed by a car.

Perhaps something or someone or the Spirit was showing me a message. Perhaps, it was a way to show me that I did the humane thing to take care of my dog as long as I could while still managed to end her life when necessary and for her well being. And while others were too careless and irresponsible to endanger their own dog. Worst, couldn't come up with the necessary finance ($273 including cremention) to give your dog the proper burial.

It was time. I knew what to expect but never really realized how much the death of Mimi would affect me. She was very lively when this happened that I was glad. The vet came in and the assistant was holding Mimi. I was petting her while the vet injecting the dose into her vein. She went to sleep within 5 sec. It took me a moment to realize she was gone. I began to cry and it was something I never would have expected until she was really gone. I spent couple of minutes with her and kissed her and left. I began to realize I have lost her because she was no longer in my arms anymore while I was walking home. It was tough. I love you Mimi........
