Whatever happened three-wheel road racing
Me and my brother get into these little betting wars periodically. Like the time he said his VW R32 could go 110 mph in third gear.

"See," he said going 110 mph and pointing at the gear shift. "Third gear, 110 mph."

And I replied, "Yeah, and there's the county mounty," which there really was, pulled over to the side of the road. Ward, my brother, went to jail and I got to drive the R32 home.

Anyway, last night after betting my wife that we couldn't drink a case of Papst in 30 minutes, I asked Wardo, "Whatever happened to three-wheel road racing?"

He said, it never happened.

Now, I remember seeing this in the early 80s when I just started racing in Winning Magazine. Really, there were races on three-wheel, 700c road bikes, drop bars, campy groups, the whole nine. The riders would corner on two wheels. I did a halfassed google search and came up doughnuts.

Anyone remember seeing this because I've got a $40 riding on it and after losing $100 to my wife last night -- there was a no barfing clause and Ward upchucked -- I need to start digging out of the hole.

Anyone?

There are a handfull of recumbent trike events too, but that would not have met the 3-700c, drop bars requirement, and Shimano, SRAM, and Suntour substantially overshadow what limitted campy appearances occur in recumbent trikes.
