OK peoples, it's that time of year.
What are everyone's cycling goals for 2007?
Nothing like making them public to keep you honest and accountable.....;)
Mine are to better my previous performances in the points races at State & National Masters Track Championships (March), ride PB pursuit times at same events and make the points race final at World Masters Track Championships (October).
I have others but they are my main goals.
Merry Christmas and a safe & fun 2007 to all.:D
Here's one big one:
Move to A grade by end of 2007

Start racing... try not to come in last.
Top 3 Masters 40+ State Time Trial.
Move to Cat.3 by end of summer.
Make guys hurt on the local club rides (which are brutal fast).
btw-July 2007 will mark my first full year back in cycling since 1991 or 92.

Score Top-10s in collegiate races, maybe upgrade to B level.
Survive the Everest Challenge http://www.everestchallenge.com/.
300W CP which translates to 4.42 W/Kg. Just hit 248W last week. Don't know if I'll make it, but then if I do I guess I'll have to raise the goal :-)
Not to get dropped on club rides and get forced into riding "ITT" every Sunday.
Hit 300W FTP or 165 lbs by May 1. (Currently at 260 and 179lbs)
Or hit both for a FT of 4.0 w/kg
This will be my first season as a cat4.
upgrade to Elite License. Get a chance to do the "long classics" here (Netherlands) and not have to only do 50km criteriums.
Race in Belgium.
Do my 100km training ride in <2h 45m.
Do more racing.
Do the Fukui Fondo 100 mile mountainous ride again in June, and plan through stealth to be first home of 300 riders.
Some time in 2007 to crack 300W FTP (preferably before June;) )
Give RD a run for his money up Mt Charleston in October. I know he thinks it can't be done by "feel" - maybe he's right, only time will tell.:D
Personal fitness:
1. No more than 1 day per week on rollers. Endure the cold, sleet, snow.
2. Increase FTP to 350 (up from current 317) by April.
3. Decrease weight to 77kg ( currently 79 ) by April
4. Ride more than this year. Moving to 6 days a week instead of 4-5.
Race Goals:
1. May - Sub 4:40 Tour de Kunisaki (165km road race). Last year this would make me top 10.
2. August/Sept - Sub 1 hr 40km TT
3. October - Podium, Okayama Int'l Circuit. This year, 11th place, 8 seconds off the lead.
4. Race more races in between. There aren't many in my area, so this will probably be the hardest of all of them :P
Ideally, I'd like to move back to the states in Feb 2008 with the documentation necessary to upgrade from Cat 5 to Cat 4 almost immediately.

VWHey Nomad, that Kunisaki race sounds interesting - have you any info on it?
Thanks. Tyson.;)
Ooops! We've just had a small earthquake in the Nagoya area.

Tour de Kunisaki is a FANTASTIC race. It goes every May 3rd (start of second half of Golden Week).
The web page for 2006 race is:
http://www11.ocn.ne.jp/~kunisaki/
The route map that I GPS'd this last year is:
http://www.magnalox.net/log/no.php?fmt=g&lid=12136
I took a pretty easy shot at it this year and placed 51st out of around 500 riders that competed in the 160km route with a time of 5hrs 23min. Top 3 riders were 4:35min and better, 2 professionals and one of the riders from our local club. We take the whole family down and camp for the week prior in Itogahama just north of Beppu.
You'll all have to hear about that race from me for the next six months.
Not to get dropped on club rides and get forced into riding "ITT" every Sunday.Your getting closer every ride, it won't be too long.

Thanks. Will keep trying... :o
OK, I just ate 6 lamingtons for dessert, but its still 06 so that PB doesn't count.
Win club C grade race.
Sit in the pack in Vets open grade race, such as ride for life.
Match Sideshow_Bob up a hill in RNP.
I'm a cross trainer so I've got other goals such as 200kg deadlift, but thats for a different forum.

Thanks Nomad for all the info. I've heard Oita is very beautiful with some good rottenburo. When I told my wife about it, she said she'd love to go down there. Unfortunately it's one hell of a drag from Nagoya, and as we're going to England for 6 weeks in July, and possibly Las Vegas in October. I think it's out of the question - for next year at least.
I read your blog too - very interesting! Cheers Tyson!

Either way, if you're down in the Hiro area with a bike on hand, drop me a line before hand. We're 30 minutes outside Hiro and we've got a pretty good group ride that goes most Sunday mornings, more so in the spring when the fair weather folk start coming back out. Either way, I'll be glad to take someone else riding any time they come down my way.
Thanks for reading the blog! This week should have a good entry or two. Another century on Thursday and a group ride _should_ go on Saturday. Next week my blogged PMC will update with power curves. Just need to finish the coding for it.
