View Full Version : Look pedal float

I am going to buy some look pedals, but I am a bit unsure of something.

I like the idea of a few degrees of 'float' in the pedal, so my knees don't wear away too fast.

The red cleats give 9 degrees of float.

Most look pedals have no float 'built in' as it were, but some do (specifically PP296 and pp396).
These have from 0-9deg selectable float.

If these are combined with red cleats does this give in effect, 9-18 degrees?

Is it worth the extra £10 or so to get float built into the pedal?

Thanks

Are you sure about that (when used with standard Look pedals)? Some sources say 9 degrees, others
say 5. Is it mentioned on the Look website (which is down at the moment)?

No, it's 0-9 with red cleats (which are supplied as standard). I've been told it's also 0-9 with
black cleats but with the dial working in reverse, but I'm not sure that's true.

It is if you get more float, or you want to experiment with different amounts of float, or you like
the models for other reasons.

I've got PP396's. I like the '9' setting and wouldn't want any less now. Not too impressed with
the other settings: they just seem to make the float feel stiffer rather than properly restricting
the angle.

"The Red Delta Cleats allow for 9 degrees of float in all non Free Arc pedals, and can adjust from
0, to 3, 6, or 9 degrees on all Free Arc pedals."

I had not thought of checking the look home page :D They say you CANNOT use the black cleats with
"free Arc" pedals.

I have ordered PP247 from ribble, £32.45 delivered. and Shimano SH-R072 from leisure-lakes.co.uk
£40.99 delivered.

Deeside are good but unfortunately their website often doesn't bear much relation to what they're
currently selling. Worth a try though.
