I'm due to have my roadie serviced and was after some feedback on where to take it in Melbourne. Where are the best bike mechanics in Melbourne, and how much should I be looking at forking out? Cheers

I'm not too concerned about having to do a little travelling. I was thinking about Fitzroy Cycles or Bike Now in South Melbourne? Can anyone give any feedback on these places? Or reccomend others? Cheers

Iwould reccomend Andrew at Cycle Science in Glenhuntly Rd, Caulfield South, excellent mechanic and insists that everything is done correctly.
Andrew owns the shop and is not just some kid who thinks he can wrench and works in a bike shop to get cheap parts/upgrades for their own bike(s)

From my own experience Fitzroys is also OK but have not heard good things about Bike Now, only hearsay though

Peter Moore at Abbotsford Cycles in Bridge Rd Richmond is the mechanic of choice for many Audaxers. He doesn't sell bikes, just parts and service.

Audax people are cycling hard-core tragics, who talk nothing but bike porn, so their choice carries some weight (btw I am neither a member of Audax nor do I have any personal interest in Peter, just repeating oft-heard goss).

Of course there is a lot to be said for learning how to do your own.

I'd love to be able to do it myself. I look at a bike and think, "It's just so simple!" I can see where things go and know what things do. But as soon as i get a tool in my hand...
It sounds like a pretty strong endorsement for Abbotsford Cycles. I went in there once when i was checking out bikes, thought I'd walked in the wrong door- Not a bike in sight!

Iwould reccomend Andrew at Cycle Science in Glenhuntly Rd, Caulfield South, You seem to be happy with this guy, but I gotta say, he quoted me $1300 for the BMC Streetfire frameset, which was $100 more than the recommended retail in the BMC pamhlet!! And I ended up getting it for $950

I can't believe someone would quote above the price in a pamphlet that is sitting in piles on the counter of every BMC dealer in town
