Eek, Kirklees! Being originally from Hudds I never really got the hang of Kirklees, which particular
bit is north?

Have a look at www.leedscyclists.org.uk - there's a link to the online Leeds cycling map
(http://www.cyclingmapsonline.co.uk/Leeds/Overview.asp) which doesn't go all the way out, but will
certainly give you some ideas - the 'quiet' roads I've cycled on have been exactly that - and
sometimes very close to much busier roads. You can also buy a hard copy for 3 quid - there's a
Bradford one too, i think.

I live in Morley and regularly ride home from Huddersfield area. I usually find myself near Cooper Bridge and ride up the A62. After the second hill, halfway up actually, I turn left to Gomersal past California Carpets and the cricket club. Continue past Redhouse Museum and right at the firestation roundabout on the A58. Once could follow this all the way to Leeds but I turn right again onto the A650 to Morley. The route as described is a bit of a dog leg, one could continue on the A62 but the hills are easier my way and the same route was used on the Leeds International Classic as far as the A58/A650 roundabout.
I only ride these routes at weekends and would imagine the traffic to be heavier during the week.
