finding a fixie in beijing

Hi, I've recently moved to beijing and Idiotically left my fixie in the UK. I thought 'hey, they make bikes in China, I don't need to bring one' and yes there are loads of bikes in china, but none of them are fixed, and no shops stock track-gear. Beijing is flat as a pancake, so a fixie, or sinlgespeed would be ideal. But, having recenly developed a fixed obsession, I'm not willing to settle for anything less.

So my question is: does anyone know a place to get track gear in bejing?

any help at all would be much appreciated.

No personal experience but I would suggest that you try the following avenues.

- Giant dealership. They seemed to have a big presence in BJ.

- Chinese Cycling Association. They are the sports governing body and given that there's no shortage of top level track cyclists in China. They sure would know where to find the parts.

- Find local velodrome and surely you'll be able to find fixie riders. One I found on the net is Beijing Long Tan Lake Velodrome, situated in Long Tan Hu Park, in the southern part of the city.

Thanks for your response, sogood. yeah, there are loads of Giant bikes, and bike shops in Beijing, but I haven't found one which has anything track related. also I couldn't seem to find anything out about that velodrome, would be interested to know where you found out about it.

I have realised though, that I may be able to use a bottom bracket lockring in conjunction with a sprocket I have from the UK to 'fix' up a road bike (I think both sprocket and lockring will fit on the thread of a non-freehub hub (the kind you stick a screw-on cassette on)), so I'm going to try that.

As I said, there's the Chinese Cycling Association and then there's that old velodrome in the south of the city, located in Long Tan Hu Park. I would suggest that you ask one of your local friend to make a few phone calls for you. Find out when they have training session and then just show up and make some friends. ;)
