Hello... I found these mint condition, old schoold Mavic MA40s w/ Italian Miche hubs (size 27" x 1-1/4" 630) on eBay. But I'm having a hard time finding decent tires to fit them; they're either the cheapy-looking gumwall types or the uneven, deformed w/ bulging sidewalls you get at Performance. Question, are the 27" tires interchangeable w/ the more popular 700c tires? Thank you in advance...

I recently got some good 90psi Duro 27x1 1/8 tyres for my new 10 speed wheels.
27x1, 1 1/8, 1 1/4 have a bead seat diameter of 630mm.
700c diameter is 622mm. No they don't fit.

As stated above, they won't fit.

Try Harris Cyclery via Sheldon Brown's website for a large selection of 27" (630mm) tires:

Hang in there and keep looking for a tire you like even if you have to put the wheelset aside for a bit. Good tires are available in this size, mostly online, but the online retailers don't have them year 'round. They seem to buy up a batch in the spring or summer, then sell them out.

Vittoria Zaffiros are a good, tough tire in this size but are basically a 26tpi training tire. Panaracer Pasela TG's are puncture resistant and have a "classsic" looking tread in the 27" size, but are a bit fragile in the sidewall like all skinwalls. Conti Ultra sports are available in this size but I have not tried them.
