I'm in the final stages of fitting for my Seven ID8 and have to pick a wheelset. I've done countless amounts of research on wheelsets the last month and narrowed down to Campy Neutron Ultra, Euro, Reynolds Attack & American Classic Magnesium. While I really like the AC Mags, I don't think they will be an ideal everyday wheelset so I scratched them of the list. The Attacks have good reviews but I think I'll hold off on a carbon wheelset and buy a nice high end set of carbon tubulars next year. So that leaves me to choose between the Neutron Ultras and Euros for my main everyday wheelset. I was leaning towards the Neutron Ultras but I've been riding a sample ID8 bike for the last 3 weeks while going through the Seven design process. They have the Bontrager Aeolus 5 Clincher wheelset. While at first I thought they were WAY stiff compared to the Easton Circuits I've been riding.....over the last few weeks I'm really beginning to like a stiff wheelset. So I've reconsidered the Euros thinking they will be stiffer than the Neutron Ultras.

Please HELP ME OUT! What are the differences between the Neutrons & Euros?

Lots of Pros ride the Neutrons but I've never seen a Pro on the Euros????

The Eurus with a 30mm rim depth is going to be quicker than the Neutron. The Attack, being carbon, may be a little less durable than the alloy rims and is only 2mm deeper than the Eurus.

I've just done 400km on a set of Reynolds Attack. Have replaced Ksyrium ES as everyday wheel. The Attackes are fantastic wheels - much better than anything previously ridden. Have tubs as well for racing. The attacks seem to be pretty durable. Time will tell. Don't count them out. Awesome wheelset!!

Sorry i cannot answer your qustion, i would like to ask you a question. What do you think of the Bontrager Aoelus 5.0's? I am seriously considering buying these wheels (tubs though) and would like to know what you thought of them. Thanks.:)

I would choose neutrons long before the other options. They will be more reliable and have an evenly distributed spoke pattern (easier to keep true). In fact I wouldn't mind a set of the old protons for the same reason. I don't buy into the Eurus being faster just because the rim is deeper. But they certainly are uglier and, with alloy spokes, their days are numbered from the moment you start riding on them.

The best all purpose wheel is still a traditionally spoked one. I would think about that option too.

You didn't say how much you weigh or what kinds of roads you're riding, but the Neutrons might be the better everyday wheel. The traditional spoke pattern is probably your best bet.

I agree that the alloy Eurus spokes are not the best, but not for your reasons, but rather for the fact that they are too thick and consequently higher drag. For that reason, my favoured Campag wheel is the Zonda, with similar rims to the Eurus but lower-profile steel spokes.
I agree that the evidence for elliptical section 30mm rims being any better than elliptical section <30mm is limited, but it is clear that elliptical 30mm is better than any box rim. I'm not sure what rim section the Neutrons have.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - I guess that you don't like the triple spoke pattern.
Not sure that traditionally spoked wheels have a clear general purpose advantage any more. I've certainly broken my share of them. In my opinion, the days of all road bike spokes are numbered.

From your choices, Neutrons. But also consider a handmade wheelset from a local wheelbuilder with the best hubs you can buy (Campagnolo Records would not be a bad choice, BTW) with Ambrosio rims or something similar.

This is, of course, with no knowledge of the sort of riding, road conditions, or your weight, so take it all with a grain of salt.
