what bottom bracket do i need to use with the shimano fc-4550? are they all the same?

Use any of the Shimano bottom bracket cup sets for integrated/outboard BB cranksets. The Tiagra level BB model nubmer SM-FC4500 is the matching BB but you could use a higher level one such as the Ultegra or 105 which have better bearings and seals. I believe that you can also use an FSA set of BB cups.
