Hurricane Ridge Record
I rode hurricane ridge in 1:20:13 on tuesday, it was 6:32 off my previous best time of 1:26:45. I think this may be the unofficial record but I wanted to through it up here and see what you alll know about this hill or previous records or races here?
My record was standing start from the fork in the road at the visitor center to the top where obstruction pt rd intersects the parking lot.

There is a rider from Jamaica that did it in 1:10.?? about two years ago, but 1:20 is a damn good time. Two years ago there was also some guy that did the climb three times in one day. Just ask the workers at the food place at the top, they know all.

All I know is that he is from Jamaica. I have heard of this guy from three different sources: 1. A Park Ranger at the top, 2. A girl the works at the food stand at the top, 3. Another very fast rider. Frankly, I would not be surprised if this Jamaican rider was more of an urban legend. Think about it, a pro rider from Jamaica who comes to Port Angeles to train? Around 2002, three members of the Navigators cycling team went up and down a couple of times, however I don't know if anyone knows how fast they did it. I called a buddy of mine and he said that in 1999, he was passed on the way up by Ironman Wolrd Champ Peter Reid who at the top showed him his computer and it read 1:04.?? for the full 17.?? miles from the visitor center to the top. Hurricane Ridge is a great place to hold a hill climb race however I don't know how that would work with it being a National Park and that $5 pay booth, my first thoughts are to just start on the other side of the booth but then you miss the first 5 miles of climbing, which is some of the best part.

"It's a great climb, tho spending 1hr 15mins at 65rpm really killed my legs! It's sort of a race, tho i didn't really truck it, just keeping a steady pace. Fastest guy was around 54mins. I also slowed-up big time after thinking i should eat. I was under the impression it was a 1.5hr climb.. I was actually about 15mins from the top when i decided 'gee, i should eat!' and cramped up trying to stuff some food in my face."

Ok- all the canucks need to realize the record is for the whole climb. 17 miles, not the last 12 from the entrance station.
If you are wondering about getting through the entrance station, there are some options,
stop your stopwatch, do in off hours, or just blow on through the left side of the road and hope for the best.
Best I can dig up is that Max Plaxton has the record for the last 12 miles in 50:??
and Mark Pringle has the record for the whole thing at 1:17:??
And then someone like Peter Reid or K-Bomb probably has the real record and doesnt even realize it. I dont really think Peter Reid did the whole 17 miles in 1:04 though, but Id be interested to hear more about it.
