Just got my bike today!
I am new to the cycling community. I just got my bike today. I got a hybrid because that is what the people I will be riding with have.

I went to a local bike shop and the guy there helped me find the right bike. It was so fun. It turns out that I had no idea what to look for in a bike because the one I thought was good was way to small.

I ended up getting the Trek 7200 hybrid. I also got a new helmet. I was shocked at how he helped me make sure it fit right and that I had it on correctly(which I didn't at first).

I want to lose around 75 lbs. So I figure that between doing weight watchers, and cycling I can do it. I don't plan on doing any type of racing. But I love being outdoors. I took a short ride today when I got my bike home and was in love.

I'm glad to hear you had such a wonderful buying experience and are so excited about riding and getting fit. Good luck and enjoy...I see you are from Buffalo, I'm a little to the East, near Letchworth park and ride there quite often.

http://www.cycling.net.au/images/smilies/biggrin.gifYou will be addicted in no time! I too have a hybrid and just love it. It's strange though, as every time I start riding I feel that I have forgotten something. Putting on a seatbelt is so automatic to me, that it feels strange that I am moving and am not wearing one - I get over it quickly and enjoy the freedom. http://www.cycling.net.au/images/smilies/smile.gif

I started out with an old mountain bike to loose some weight, ive lost 140lb so far and have upgraded the bike twice (not going to do it again, last one cost me $3k lol)

Saturday 3 November 2007 - got my new bike! Avanti Discovery 8 with all the trimmings. I'm so excited! http://www.cycling.net.au/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

The ride home from the shop was so comfortable and easy, I took the long way! Unheard of, for me, to do 'unnecessary' exercise. It is the middle of the day and hot, so I will sensibly wait http://www.cycling.net.au/images/smilies/frown.gif til it cools a little before heading out again.

Before this, I thought people were mad when they would ride into work or some such. Now - I'm one of them! Well... when I have managed to build my fitness level. http://www.cycling.net.au/images/smilies/redface.gif I'm planning on riding to work (a short trip so achievable fairly early on). A friend and I are also talking about a cycling holiday next year! That will be great motivation.

Did I say I was excited? http://www.cycling.net.au/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Went for a longer ride (fantastic in so many ways) and met up with a friend for a coffee so I could show off the bike. She was suitably impressed! http://www.cycling.net.au/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Similar thoughts to me Brissie! How can they do it! However, I was also envious of those that would ride in. Now i'm one of them! Took time to get things ready but absoulutely love it now. I do it twice a week and will attempt another day shortly.
