I have been training all winter on a trainer and have added in power yoga.I have been getting out on the road as much as possible since April. In the last few weeks, I've felt tired/drained and almost bored. My legs feel heavy and I seem to struggle. Have I hit a wall and just need a rest or a change of scenery? I certailnly dont want to take to much time off, as I'm getting ready for a big charity ride.

In the last few weeks, I've felt tired/drained and almost bored. ...Seems like a common theme this time of year with a lot of folks posting similar burnout questions now that mid season is here. There are a lot of ways to deal with mid season burnout, but it depends a lot on what you've been doing to date. If you've been doing a lot of high end training or racing then backing down to Tempo and SST can refresh your body and mind. If you've been doing more steady state endurance work(seems likely if your target event is a charity ride) then perhaps a few days off followed by a change of scenery and some new terrain would help a lot.

One way or another mix things up a bit with different routes or different intensities. A couple of days won't cost you much fitness and can pay off big time with a renewed attitude but one way or another it sounds like you need some change in your routine. If you really have been doing longer steady endurance rides it might pay to take some time off and then come back with some shorter, harder SST/L4 work. The intensity will go up, but the time on the bike will go down and it's fun to cover distance a bit faster if you've mostly focused on duration.

Good luck and don't despair, just try to get some rest if you need it and be creative with changing your training around a bit to make it fun again,

Thanks for the information. I think your right. I need to back off for a day or two and take a nice ride on the coast ( south of Boston ). Like most people, I juggle work, family and everything else. So when I ride, I tend to stay close to home, and do a very hard 20-30 miles. On the weekends I tend to take much longer steadier rides. I thinka little R&R will cure my burnout. Thanks again.
