Young Riders Pressured To Dope

Since 2001, over 90,000 cyclist's have joined Cycling Forums to discuss topics from general cycling to equipment, training, racing and travel or vacation destinations (especially in europe during the tour de france). We also feature an great deals in our online store, 100's of articles, classifieds and product reviews.

Anyone know of any stories of young cyclist being pressured to dope, not to just make it but actual executives of teams or clubs?

I am specifically interested in EPO cases.

Also if you know of these cases how do the young riders get away with not testing positive for EPO now that there is a test protocol?

But do coaches etc pressure the younger riders to do this? How is it broached?

What CAT does it start at? Juniors?

There was an article about this on cyclingnews (i think?) and there was huge pressure to dope, as some Jr's have already been caught.

I doubt the team managers do it. I bet the rider convinced Dad that everyone does it and they need to find a doctor that will do it for them.

Hallo from Italy, this is my experience.

In Italy (it's the place where I live) the trend is very similar. In particular, when I was a Juniores (1999-2000) there were many troubles with est-europe athletes: the teams caught them from their countries, they offered them a place for living in Italy (usually in 2-star hotels), and they practiced systematic doping on them (nandrolone, etc etc). The controls were uneffective and very rare. The riders could not oppose to their director's will; the alternative was to go back to est-europe to starve... when the italian federation (FCI) discovered this situation, forbade to italian juniores + under 23 team to have more than 1 stranger (this situation is the actual one).
