Hello - new to this forum and really just a hobbyist. I need some advice.

My granddaughter has a cheap (Walmart?K MArt? Target) bicyle in a mountain bike type configuration.

One of the shifters is seized up. I've not worked on this type before. The cable seems fine and the derailluer moves, but the shifter will not.

It is the type that surrounds the handlebar and clicks from one position to another, not a lever. I think it may be called an indexed shifter(?)

The brand name on the shifter is TQ-One, I suspect it is rather generic. It resembles this picture:

I don't know if the picture shows so here's a link to it:

Any advice on how to fix it?

That is a twist grip shifter, the number of speeds will be on it. Just replace it with a Sunrace or Shimano of a similar mumber of speeds. It is not worth trying to dismantle and repair them.

Thanks for the quick response. I've been fixing bikes since I learned to ride, so my instinct is to try and repair it. Sounds like a possible lost cause!

I agree with George that the shifter is likely not repairable. On that price level of bike, most of the internals are pretty cheaply made and are not intended to be repaired.
