When it comes to buying vitamin/mineral supplements, which ones do you
always have to have stocked and ready, that you can't do without?

Here's my list:

Calcium + vit D - bones
DHEA - anti-aging
Fish Oil - lower cholesterol
Flaxseed - lower cholesterol
Garlic - aid heart
Gingko Biloba - memory
Horny Goat w/ Maca - passion
Melatonin or Valerian Root - sleep aid
Saw Palmetto - prostate?
vit B 6, 12 - energy
vit C - antioxidant stave off disease/illness

Unnecessary. Cut out refined carbs will have better results.

Get it from real food.

I hope you eat real garlic, that is real food. Garlic capsules are a
waste of money and cheats you out of enjoying real garlic.

Good idea. make it a good stress formula multi and you can't go wrong.

Another good idea.

But you should also ensure that your food is the freshest and most
nutrient dense available and avoid nutrient-deficient manufactured
crap. And cut out the nutrient-deficient refined carbs. And don't
avoid healthy animal fats. Bone broth soups are the best food around.
Fat is good. Pork fat rules. Real fresh whole unpasteurized milk is
extremely wholesome food. And fresh produce is amazing stuff.

Apples and oranges and that isn't the question.
Nature fails in all sorts of ways especially in the
context on an aging body. And the food disturbution
system has it faults. Feed lot meat, pesticides on and
in foods, lack fresh foods, too many grain based foods
etc. So even nature is hard to find in this world; much less
a calculated optimum.

May list of supplements:
Vitamin D 100mcg dose plus taken with a fatty meal
selenium 200 mcg organic
betaine HCL multigram dose (a true life saver)
folic acid and brewers yeast
colabamin various forms 1 mg dose plus
10 mgs of biotin
Niacin rather high dose and niacinamide
B-5 several forms high dose overall
All other B-vtiamins
Taurine
Inositol multigram doses (wonderful stuff)
high gamma E
rrr-alpha tocopherol succinate
melatonin (for a truly sound sleep)
a low dose DHEA (not available from the diet)
r-alpha lipoc acid
DIM small dose
Rosemary
benfotiamine (potent so I only need 100 mgs or so)
Zinc, Chromium
Magnesium citrate or ascorbate
vitamin C (2 grams per day)
Vitamin K fairly high dose and I should take more
Fish oil (when needed)
a very occassional vitamin A capsule retinol
ubiquinone (the more the better)
2 grams of carniitine

I never take additional calcium supplements
as pill bases often carry too much as it is.

A bowl of blueberries or a berry concentrate (nearly free) every day
Sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, walnuts,
pecans, coconut every day.

Avoid simple sugars most of the time.
prefer rice and oats to other grains.
Avoid wheat for months at a time
Mostly avoid fried foods.
Always avoid dried milk products.
Avoid corn oil
Use olive oil now and then

my list

daily
----------
200mcg selenomax selenium
250mg ester C (twice daily)
8 types of vitamin E (1 cap)
low dosage coQ10
2gm biotin (to prevent hair loss caused by alpha lipoic acid. yes i
experienced it)
250mg propolis+ginseng+royal jelly

once in 3 days
------------------------
250mg (i think) alpha-lipoic acid
calcium +vitamin D
organic citrus extract (natural vitamin c and flavonoids)

once a week
--------------------
2mg folic acid


my meals are varied everyday = chinese, indian, japanese, korean,
italian, thai, organic etc...
more veggies than meat. I eat yogurt few times a week. though i enjoy
hot chili very much.
rice is staple food, so i take more brown rice whenever i could. i
often cook organic wholewheat, green tea buckwheat, brown rice noodles
at home. (i can't cook rice, im so blur). once a week fast food for
craving

I believe variety is important. sometimes our body needs fire, balance
of ying/yang.

i Drink amachazuru (Jiao Gu Lan) herbal tea regularly cause it cures
my cough/flu/fever quickly

i try to avoid foods with conditioning and preserving chemicals like
sodium benzoate, or anything with colouring/flavoring and anything
with E-code chemical , like MSG or sunset yellow etc....

there are studies saying gingko is useless
however, there are equally studies which states otherwise.
Dr Lester Packer believes in gingko's wonderful antioxidant properties
and etc..
ancient asian belief = garlic and onion can already incite your
'passion'. those 2 ingredients are not used in buddhist/hindu
vegetarian foods.

Here's my list.
Vitamin C(calcium ascorbate, 500mg)
Selenium
Vitamin E(400 IU)
Vitamin K
Vitamin B complex
Folic acid
Calcium
Magnesium
Vitamin D(2,000 IU)
Omega 3 fatty acids(DHA & EPA)

Although I take them every day, I don't consider it a necessity to
take those every day and will skip them on short trips.

I try to eat a balanced diet, taking the supplements as insurance that
I get enough.

I don't think that I would get enough vitamin D from my diet or from
sun exposure in the winter.

I also take an 81 mg aspirin tablet, but don't consider it a
supplement.

Your must-have list of vitamin/mineral supplements?
I couldn't go a day without taking Rhodiola rosea, the Swedish variety
(Arctic Root brand). My list of supplements is similar to yours, with
the exception of a couple of additional herbs. My life hasn't been the
same since I started taking the RHodiola. More energy, getting more
out of my days and feeling better about it, etc.
