spd-sl compatible shoes
View Full Version : spd-sl compatible shoes
I'm just building up my first road bike from a frame and ordered a set of Ultegra spd-sl pedals. I assumed from the 3 hole pattern on the cleat that they were Look compatible. When I downloaded shimano's docs just to double check they specified that they had to be spd-sl compatible. I checked out some of shimano's own shoes and many of them were Look, spd, spd-r compatible but did not specify spd-sl compatibility whereas there were some specific models that did. I have been unable to find any shoes other than a few shimano models that state spd-sl compatibility. So my question is will they work well even if they don't claim to be spd-sl compatible? I noticed a lot of you guys are riding with the spd-sl's so what shoes are you using? Keep in mind that I have the Ultegra version so I'm looking for $200+ professional racing shoes. Trust me when I say I would not do them justice.
Thanks,
Matt
The bolt pattern is the same as Look; however the cleat screws that Shimano provide are a little short, so for some shoes, you'll need to find longer ones. That's about it.
As rek said, there shouldn't be any compatability issues with most shoes. If you get Shimano's road shoes you know they'll be okay, and they've got some nice carbon-sole models starting at less than $200 USD.
I swear - I am not a Shimano rep or stock holder. Maybe I should be.

Thanks for the info. I'm most likely going to go with the carbon-sole Shimano's but it's at least nice to know my first observation was accurate and that I have choices.
